I arrived in Antigua at around 5.30pm and after a couple of hours of getting through immigrations, customs and weaving through the island in a taxi, I finally arrived at what I would be calling home for the next week – St James Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

By the time I got in, it was too dark to take any photos and quite frankly, all I could think about was dinner so I have no photos at all from that night. To be honest, I don’t even think I had a proper clue what the resort looked like. I knew where my room way (I got an upgrade to a Royal Suite – Woohoo!!!!) and I knew my way to the restaurant for dinner. That’s it.<\/p>\n

I’d made up my mind prior to arrival that my first full day (i.e. day 2) would be spent relaxing and exploring the resort and so I did just that! Fancy a little gander around St James Club? Let’s start with the view from my room…<\/p>\n

I had a view overlooking the bay (Mamora Bay) so it’s as good a place to start as any…<\/p>\n

There are two beaches here – one on the Caribbean which is calm (perfect for little kids) and one on the Atlantic side which has the waves.<\/p>\n

There are so many amazing birds on the island. I’m a sucker for wildlife and some of the birds here are those that I’ve only ever seen in a zoo or on TV so you can imagine my excitement at seeing them in the wild. Now if I could just get them to stand still for a second so I can take a proper photo!<\/p>\n

One thing I noticed on my drive from the airport and wandering around the resort is how much Antiguan love pastel colours. The island is already quite colourful naturally so when you arrive at the villages and towns and walk\/drive through the colourful houses, it’s a perfect smorgasbord of colours.<\/p>\n

The sunsets here are things of legend too! In Antigua generally, the sunsets are amazing and definitely worth checking out from a vantage view point. Paradoxically, the sun sets very quickly here – the skies glow orange for all of 15 – 30 minutes before going dark so you’re not left waiting hours for the sun to set properly (which for me is a biggie as I go from “Wow! How beautiful!” to “Okay, I’m bored now” very quickly).<\/p>\n

The gazebos here are the best to check out the sunsets from. Or at least they’re my fave!<\/p>\n

I have no idea what that thing below is. Some lady said it was a sea cucumber. The same lady also seem sufficiently pickled from all the delicious rum punch here so I’m taking here words with a pinch of salt.<\/p>\n

And – BIG QUESTION here – What sort of bird is this? I think it’s some kind of Pelican Dinosaur but I’d really love to know what it’s really called. Any clues?<\/p>\n
