Cape Town<\/a> is such a fun city!<\/p>\n

Understandably, on a night out in any city, no one wants to be saddled with a DSLR camera so on this night in Cape Town, following the advice of our hosts at the hotel, I left my camera at home and went out armed with just my iPhone. As great as iPhones are for photography in daylight, they’ve still got miles to go with their night time photos so I apologise in advance as so many of the pictures are so spectacularly grainy, you’d be forgiven for thinking they’d come from several decades ago!<\/p>\n

Anyway, you didn’t come on to hear about the iPhone, you came to hear about this recommendation for dinner and drinks by the beach.<\/p>\n

This place in question is the Grand Cafe & Beach.<\/p>\n

HOW DID WE FIND OUT ABOUT IT?<\/strong><\/p>\n

As much I would like to take credit for finding this amazing spot, it was actually local knowledge we relied on to find this place. Back at the hotel (which I have so much to tell you about as we found ourselves a pretty sweet place there), we met a couple Dennis (Dutch) and Arizona (South African – from Cape Town actually) who insisted we go to Grand Cafe & Beach. They had already made a reservation and after raving about the place, insisted we joined them. Well, I’m not one who needs to be asked twice about drinks and good food! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

WELL, WHERE IS IT?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s located in the V&A Waterfront (which is an actual area in Cape Town) but just in case you prefer specifics, here are their full details below.<\/p>\n

WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.) Dress smart casual at the very least. Especially in the evenings.<\/p>\n

2.) Make a reservation. You might struggle to get in if you don’t.<\/p>\n

3.) Try the passion fruit cocktail. Can’t remember the exact name but they’re amazing!<\/p>\n

WHAT WAS IT LIKE THERE?<\/strong><\/p>\n

*Another Reminder: These are iPhone night-time photos so they’re (very very) far from the best!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

You arrive and find this ginormous unassuming shed and it’s not until you step in that you realise that this could be someplace special. It looks rustic from the outside but it’s a lot fancier and well thought out on the inside.<\/p>\n

After thoroughly relaxing by the pool all afternoon and dozing off briefly in a champagne-induced haze (part of the welcome package at the hotel), Georgia, Lloyd and I decided to throw on our glad rags and head out to dinner!<\/p>\n

Within minutes of arrival, we were sipping on a multitude of different cocktails… The cocktails here are amazing, by the way! Easily one of the biggest draws here. And they cost like \u00a32 too. #Winning!<\/p>\n

We couldn’t wait too long to explore so as soon as we put our orders in for our meals, we decided to head outside to see more of Grand Beach – cocktails in hand!<\/p>\n

The cocktails kicked in pretty quick!<\/p>\n

What do you do when presented with a large bottle of champagne?<\/p>\n

If only there was actually champagne in it… *sigh*<\/p>\n

Apparently (according to Arizona) Lloyd looks like Adam Levine. (A poor version requiring a rather solid stretch of the imagination as far as I am concerned \ud83d\ude09 ) Thanks to that comment, Georgia and I were left dealing with Lloyd’s newly inflated ego for a few days after that!<\/p>\n

I have very little explanation for the photo below.<\/p>\n

We lost so much time over drinks, food and oodles of laughs over dinner that by the time we looked up – everyone had left and they were pretty much ready to close.<\/p>\n

We settled our bills, went for one last gander and hopped into a taxi headed for the hotel…<\/p>\n

… except the plans to go to the hotel was foiled when we decided to take a detour and head for Long Street. Long street is the night life capital of Cape Town and a definite must visit when you’re in town!<\/p>\n

I’m gonna stop off here with one simple fact – Long Street lived up to expectations and was so much fun! Definitely a great way to get stuck into Cape Town after dinner. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
