If you haven’t, then permit me to take you on a little tour around Paderborn…<\/p>\n

Oddly enough, for all the times I’d been to Paderborn (for the German Christmas markets – packed with oodles of gluhwein and the Libori festival with its fun fair… and to visit family), I’d never been around the city properly until it was decided by Jani (who is so much fun, by the way) that it was high time we saw Paderborn.<\/p>\n

First things first – it’s funny how easy it is to take something for granted because you’re used to it. I was so used to coming to Paderborn to relax with family that I had no idea how big it was outside my usual haunts in the main square.<\/p>\n

The days started off a little cloudy… (I also forgot my camera at home so I had to use my iPhone to take the photos<\/em>).<\/p>\n

…with peeks of blue sky bringing in hope of sunshine later on.<\/p>\n

We weaved our way through the city and stumbled upon an art gallery…<\/p>\n

\"Have<\/a><\/p>\n

..where it appears we uncovered Jani’s secret past as an artist’s model.<\/p>\n

There were a whole lot of these ladies dotted around the different corners of the room.<\/p>\n

We eventually headed out to take in the sunshine and make our way towards the iconic Cathedral<\/p>\n

The cathedral is as impressive inside as it is outside!<\/p>\n

\"Have<\/a><\/p>\n

These gates (which you can find all along the cathedral) give you the illusion of a long hallway when you look at it straight on – in reality, it’s one flat gate.<\/p>\n

The trick with the gates is apparently to look at it with one eye open. You can probably still still it with both eyes open.<\/p>\n

The hallways around the cathedral and leading to the gardens is filled with carvings and stained glass windows…<\/p>\n

In the gardens you can still find items from World War II…<\/p>\n

The side streets and alleyways here are some of the best treats in Paderborn. They’re filled with beautiful German buildings and some of the most picturesque routes for a city walk…<\/p>\n

By this point, I really wished I hadn’t forgotten my proper camera!<\/p>\n

An ice cream break is always a must whenever you see an ice cream shop!<\/p>\n

Ice creams of course make perfect companions for walks through the parks and by the river side…<\/p>\n

All that ice cream did in the end though was remind us all of how hungry we were and so we stopped for food (I stocked up on some German Pomme Frittes Salz) and we spent the rest of the day catching up, gobbling up the chocolates we bought earlier in the day and generally chuffed that we’d finally gotten round to see Paderborn in all its charming glory!<\/p>\n
