Remember how I said on St Agnes Island, there’s a second island attached to it via a beach (which is officially called a ‘Tombolo’).<\/p>\n

Well, that island is called Gugh, and so after lunch at the Turk’s Head<\/a>, we made our way straight for Gugh Island during our trip to the Isles of Scilly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But, instead got distracted by the beach and decided to chill out here for a bit.<\/p>\n

I believe, even from these pictures alone, that it’s fairly easy to see why I justified the decision to spend a little while down at the beach before carrying on…<\/p>\n

I couldn’t put off walking around for much longer, so we set off after a while towards Gugh.<\/p>\n

That random thing below, by the way, is a clock!<\/p>\n

The walk around Gugh proved to be something of an uphill climb…<\/p>\n

\"Gugh,<\/a><\/p>\n

… but the views from the top were totally worth it!<\/p>\n

\"Gugh,<\/a><\/p>\n

There are a few paths that take you around the island. A little word of advice here, though, wear proper shoes.<\/p>\n

In my shorts and flip-flops, I was fine for most of it, but as the day went on, I occasionally slipped out of my flip-flops and stood on the low bramble bushes, which is something you won’t forget for a while if you happen to do the same.<\/p>\n

I found Old Man Gugh, which is a 9-foot-tall (i.e. 2.7 metres tall) Menhir. This, in particular, menhir dates back to the Bronze Age (over 3,500 years ago).<\/p>\n

It kinda looks like a giant’s hand reaching out of the ground, right?<\/p>\n

We spent the rest of the afternoon on Gugh looking for random birds (I was hoping to see a puffin here – I swear those things are so elusive, everyone but me seems to be able to see them).<\/p>\n

I also hoped I would get to see some seals (not even sure if there were supposed to be any on this island, but I just didn’t care – I wanted to see some. I didn’t see any.<\/p>\n

Almost by magic, we happened upon Covean Cottage Cafe (Google Maps pin<\/a>), where we had the most amazing homemade scones, jam and clotted cream.<\/p>\n

Served with lemonade and apple juice, all locally produced in Cornwall. Well, it was either magic or the rumbling of my tummy led me in a food haze to find the nearest source of deliciousness.<\/p>\n

Whatever it was, all I know is that I didn’t choose this tea and scones life… the tea and scones life chose me!<\/p>\n

With less than an hour left to spare before the boat arrived to take us back to Tresco, I decided to cram in as much of St Agnes as I could in the remaining time…<\/p>\n

\"Gugh,<\/a><\/p>\n

It truly is such a beautiful little island to explore!<\/p>\n

The boat ride back was great, as the sun was shining and everyone seemed to have had a great time on St Agnes…<\/p>\n

We did all get excited by this surfer making the most of the afternoon’s light breeze!<\/p>\n

Such a show off… (*Disclaimer* My comments may be tinged by a slight bit of jealousy here…<\/em> \ud83d\ude09 )<\/p>\n
