Ngong Ping Village is one place you definitely have to visit when exploring the best things to do in  Hong Kong<\/a>. It’s such a different scene from the mainland’s bright lights, fast cars and concrete, glass & steel towers.<\/p>\n

To get to the village, you can either take a cable car (the Ngong Ping 360) which is an experience on its own.<\/p>\n

It’s a see-through car and as though that wasn’t enough, it offers panoramic views all the way up to the village. The journey lasts 1 hour though there is a shorter 25-minute option.<\/p>\n

We didn’t have time to wait for the cable car (those queues can be quite crazy) and we had just a few hours before we had to head to the airport so we flagged a taxi down and took it all the way to the village (which is really really high!).<\/p>\n

Anyway, let’s get cracking with the things you need to do and see.<\/p>\n

First things first, as soon as you arrive check out this tree with what appears to scroll hanging from it. You have no choice really, it’s right at the entrance.<\/p>\n

Check out the Big Buddha in the distance…<\/p>\n

Take a walk around the village and explore it in a lot more detail…<\/p>\n

You are high up in the clouds here and the clouds at this stage actually covered the Big Buddha – which is actually called Tian Tan Buddha…<\/p>\n

Finally, brace yourself for a climb up to the Big Buddha.<\/p>\n

It seems high and indeed it is but it’s a lot easier to climb than it looks…<\/p>\n

Look back at the village, looks quite mystical with the clouds covering it…<\/p>\n

We decided to get hats (see below) and Chinese opera masks (not pictured).<\/p>\n

Those hats proved to be a challenge to pack in our luggage so I ended up wearing mine all the time while travelling to and from airports (even in London, Australia and Dubai)<\/p>\n

Finally, we had to make our way to the airport and we bade Ngong Ping Village farewell and went to look for a taxi to take us to the airport…<\/p>\n

Instead, we found lots of cows in the car park, eventually, a taxi did show up of course but we had cows to keep us company until it did! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
