Maui is a gorgeous island in Hawaii, and one of those spots that I\u2019m pretty sure you\u2019ll love. There\u2019s a whole heap of things to do in Maui, with everything from hiking trails, gorgeous drives, stunning beaches and plenty of good food! It\u2019s one of those islands that seems to just fit around your own pace.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the last 8 months, we\u2019ve visited Maui twice and loved both of our visits (plus we lucked out with the weather). That\u2019s the thing, with loads of things to do in Maui – it\u2019s actually hard to dislike the island.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is why I wanted to share some of my very favourite things to do in Maui from all across the island. Some things will take a few hours or even a day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Take a look at some of the very best things to do in Maui. You\u2019re going to have an amazing trip! <\/span><\/p>\n

1.) Sunset (or sunrise) at Haleakal\u0101 Observatory<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

So, one of the best things to do in Maui is to watch the sunset from Haleakal\u0101 National Park. <\/span><\/p>\n

Now, you can either hike (if you\u2019re feeling fit) or drive (which takes around 1 hour from the base), either way, give yourself plenty of time. <\/span><\/p>\n

I guarantee you\u2019ll stop multiple times on the way up\u2026 especially when you start to rise above the clouds.<\/span><\/p>\n

You will need to pay the entrance fee to the park itself, but this can be done at the gate when entering. <\/span><\/p>\n

Oh, and make sure to take a warm coat\u2026 trust me, it gets proper chilly up here!<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, you can also head to the summit for sunrise. <\/span><\/p>\n

One of the best ways to do this is by booking the Haleakala National Park tour<\/a> for the sunrise views. It’s incredible, and they will even pick you up directly from your hotel. <\/p>\n

For this, it’s essential to book these tickets<\/a> beforehand and make sure to be prepped for a 2-3 am wake-up call. <\/span><\/p>\n

2.) Road to Hana<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Before we visited, we were warned about the road to Hana being quite narrow and long. <\/span><\/p>\n

To be honest, after living in Scotland and Wales, the road is pretty much the same as some of the Highland roads and quite easily navigated if you\u2019re used to winding routes.<\/span><\/p>\n

That being said, if you\u2019re used to straight and wide roads, you might find this a little more challenging.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, there\u2019s a whole heap of things to do in Maui and particularly on the road to Hana. Along the way, make sure to stop off at Twin Falls (see here on Google Maps<\/a>), and have a Braddah Hutts BBQ and some yummy banana bread. <\/span><\/p>\n

Oh, and don\u2019t forget to stop off at Wailua Falls (mentioned below) and the Bamboo Forest!<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve driven the road to Hana twice, and on the first time, we drove back the way we came (once reaching near Hana). The second time, we headed around the whole loop. <\/span><\/p>\n

One thing to note is that the road does become a gravel trail at some stages after Hana and can be much slower. <\/span>Plus, it\u2019s not always covered by your rental car policy.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.) Nakalele Blowhole<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

On the easterly edge of Maui, beyond Kapalua, you\u2019ll come across the Nakalele Blowhole that\u2019s around a 15-minute scramble from the road itself. <\/span><\/p>\n

Now, I say scramble as you will be going down the mountainside, and the route isn\u2019t paved. This means it can be a little precarious if you\u2019re wearing sandals or flip-flops.<\/span><\/p>\n

That being said, once you\u2019re here, it\u2019s lovely to see and one of the things to do in Maui when you\u2019re on this side of the island. Just be sure to stand a safe distance from the blowhole, it\u2019s very dangerous to stand close as you can be sucked in.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.) Molokini Island Preserve<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The uninhabited Molokini island sits just off the shore of Maui and is one of the old vents from the main volcano on Maui itself. Today, it\u2019s a tiny little semi-circle island that\u2019s amazing to visit! <\/span><\/p>\n

Now, you won\u2019t be able to go on the island itself, but you can book this Molokini boat cruise<\/a> with lunch. <\/span><\/p>\n

By booking this ticket<\/a>, you’ll get to experience this incredible world-famous Molokini reef and get to go snorkelling with an expert by your side. If you\u2019re lucky, you\u2019ll even spot some turtles too. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our excursion took around 3-4 hours and was totally worth it. It really is one of the things to do in Maui if you want to explore this world-famous place.<\/span><\/p>\n

5.) Luau Feast<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

A luau feast is almost a staple and one of the things to do in Maui if you want to explore some of the island state’s beautiful heritage. <\/span><\/p>\n

Usually, the luau happens at some of the larger hotels, and most of the larger ones organise this. <\/span><\/p>\n

That being said, if you want to ensure you get tickets, book this epic Maui Luau<\/a> that’s so incredible. Especially as this luau has gorgeous views of the ocean at sunset.<\/p>\n

You’ll get to learn so much more about Maui and gorge on a yummy dinner and tasty cocktails. Just be sure to book in advance, these Luau tickets<\/a> do sell out fast. <\/p>\n

6.) Shaved ice<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

This is one of the most refreshing things to do in Maui. Hands down! Literally, I think we ate shaved ice every other day whilst we were on the island.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, you\u2019ll find lots of spots selling shaved ice, but one of our favourites was Ululani’s Shave Ice<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Be prepared for a little queue as this place is pretty popular. Oh, and try it with li hing mui powder on top! It\u2019s a local favourite (though, I couldn\u2019t get to grips with the saltiness of it). <\/span><\/p>\n
