On of the reasons why Bavaria in Germany<\/a> is so special is without a doubt it\u2019s natural beauty.<\/p>\n

And I\u2019m not talking about the kind of beauty that\u2019s subjective (or to put it nicely \u201cin the eye of the beholder…<\/em>\u201d\ud83d\ude09\ud83d\ude01), the beauty here is by all accounts absolutely breathtaking.<\/p>\n

On our way to our next stop, it was recommended that we stopped off in Walchensee and so we did just that!<\/p>\n

To get a better view of the area, we took the cable car up to the Herzogstand mountain (remember to bring cash here \u2013 they do not take cards here).<\/p>\n

The view from Herzogstand is just absolutely stunning! Not just of the amazing emerald lake Walchensee but also of the surrounding towns, villages and mountains!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s just such an amazing picture of Germany that I honestly don\u2019t think we\u2019ve seen anywhere else we\u2019ve visited in Germany.<\/p>\n

Not too far from where the cable car drops you off is a restaurant – Berggasthaus Herzogstand<\/a>, which also had pretty amazing views of the surrounding countryside and so even if you don\u2019t plan on having a meal up here, it\u2019s definitely worth the few minutes walk here to check it out.<\/p>\n

The food here is traditionally German food – like the menu is only in German and we had to order in (pretty terrible) German as the staff spoke very little English but that\u2019s what you\u2019re here for \u2013 all things German! \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been obsessed with Kartoffelkloesse (German dumplings) for a few months now, enough that I recognise them on the menu straight away so I was good but Lloyd ended up ordering chicken nuggets (or a version of anyway) which took him by surprise. (*Well, he says that but I know Lloyd\u2019s partial to chicken nuggets (especially with a side of baked beans) so I kinda feel like his plan all along was to get these chicken nuggets… \ud83d\ude01)<\/p>\n

Done with lunch, we headed back for the cable car to go down to the Walchensee lake.<\/p>\n

If we had more time though, I think I\u2019d very much have like to have done the hike back downhill as it\u2019s so beautiful here (plus downhill walking is soooooooo much easier than uphill \ud83d\ude04).<\/p>\n

Down by the lake, what I didn\u2019t expect was how this area had been turned to a beach.<\/p>\n

Families were out, picnicking, swimming, sailing and generally just making the most of this beautiful German summer day!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s just the perfect spot to get your feet wet and take a moment to yourself before carrying on to explore even more of Germany\u2019s absolutely stunning countryside.<\/p>\n
