Belgium is one stunning country to explore! Let’s be honest, for a relatively small country, it packs a mighty punch with all the gorgeous towns and cities in Belgium to visit. From the endless waffle houses in Brussels<\/a> to the beautiful canals of Bruges<\/a>, there are cities in Belgium that’ll suit every visitor’s tastes, I’m sure.<\/p>\n

That being said, it can often be difficult to pinpoint just a few of the hamlets, towns and cities in Belgium to visit. Especially if you’re on a tight schedule or only visiting Belgium for a limited amount of time. \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n

That’s why I wanted to share some of my very favourite little towns and cities in Belgium that I’m sure you’ll love. \ud83c\udde7\ud83c\uddea<\/p>\n

1.) Bruges<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Bruges<\/a> is a gorgeous capital city of West Flanders, tucked away in northwest Belgium.<\/p>\n

Once here, make sure to stop off in the central piazza area called the Markt. It’s the beating heart of Bruges with lots of little shops and restaurants to visit – that being said, they’re very much on the tourist trail and tend to be priced accordingly. If you want a totally yummy lunch, pop over to pro-Deo<\/a> (they serve some of the tastiest croquettes).<\/p>\n

Afterwards, head over to Belfry and the Rozenhoedkaai area of the city. It’s beautiful. \u2728<\/p>\n

2.) Spa<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Perched in the Province of Li\u00e8ge, Spa is the actual town where the word spa came from!<\/p>\n

Famous for its Romanesque churches, springs and the surrounding forest which provides great hiking terrain. This picturesque town is just a 40-minute drive west of Li\u00e8ge which makes it a great day-trip destination if you\u2019ve not got the time for a weekend break.<\/p>\n

Don’t forget to head to Les Thermes de Spa for a rejuvenating morning relaxing in Turkish Baths. After all, it was the very first site to be famed for its healing cold springs. \ud83d\udca6<\/p>\n

3.) Bouillon<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Town<\/a><\/p>\n

Perched right next to the border with France, The town of Bouillon is the perfect escape for those who love the great outdoors and being at one with nature.  It’s one of those towns and cities in Belgium that really embraces the nature within the municipality.<\/p>\n

If nature is your thing, there\u2019s plenty of hiking trails, horse riding treks and rivers and The Giant’s Tomb. That being said, if you love the history a little more, make sure to explore Bouillon Castle, the Ducal Museum and Abbaye Clairefontaine.<\/p>\n

4.) Antwerp<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Town<\/a><\/p>\n

Located on the banks of the River Scheldt, Antwerp is one of the port cities in Belgium, with a totally vibrant heart.<\/p>\n

Once here, make sure to visit Cogels Osylei, Saint Paul’s Church, the beautiful Grote Markt and the Cathedral of Our Lady. The town centre is literally bursting with cool hipster foodie joints like Meat Factory,<\/a> craft breweries and yummy seafood spots like Het Gerecht<\/a>.<\/p>\n

5.) Ypres<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Located in the province of West Flanders the town of Ypres, there’s a deep and long history to explore in Ypres.<\/p>\n

Heavily impacted by the world war I, head to In Flanders Fields Museum to learn more about the war exhibits before heading over to Menin Gate, a touching outdoor memorial to see.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, pop over to Market Square and Saint Martins Cathedral, too.<\/p>\n

6.) Durbuy<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Durbuy is a fairytale-like town in eastern Belgium home to cobbled streets and endless green gardens that make this town so picturesque.<\/p>\n

The old town is full of charm and is the perfect place for a coffee while a walk around Topiary Park. If you’re more of a water lover, pop over to Durbuy Kayaks for a trip around the area.  Oh, and don’t forget to grab a bite to eat at La Table de Manon<\/a> – it’s so yummy.<\/p>\n

7.) Mechelen<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Town<\/a><\/p>\n

Mechelen is home to an array of impressive churches, St. Rumbold\u2019s Cathedral and a medieval market square that’s stunning at any time of the year (but especially at Christmas).<\/p>\n

The city is pretty famous for its breweries and a trip to \u2018Het Anker\u2019 brewery is a must on any trip to the town. Honestly, you’ll probably end up sipping on beer during your whole trip here.<\/p>\n

8.) Dinant<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Town<\/a><\/p>\n

Dinart is probably one of the smaller cities in Belgium to explore. But size isn’t everything, with Dinart being the perfect example of this.<\/p>\n

This relatively off-the-beaten-path destination is home to colourful three-story houses, dramatic cliff faces and a grand castle with gardens akin to Versailles.<\/p>\n

Strap on your walking shoes and head to the Citadel of Dinant, a medieval fortress with wonderful views of the town and also see the Grotte La Merveilleuse which is an underground cave network that’s great to explore.<\/p>\n

9.) Brussels<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Last but not least, take a trip to Brussels<\/a>. It’s one of my favourites cities in Belgium and probably the best city to grab your fair share of waffles.<\/p>\n

Once here, make sure to explore Grand Place, find Mannequin Pis, head to the top of the Atomium and head to the Royal Museums of Fine Arts (which is great if the weather takes a turn for the worse).<\/p>\n
