There’s something so gorgeous about England. There are so many pretty places to explore<\/a>, and yes, I am slightly biased. After growing up in the stunning country of Wales<\/a> and studying in the dramatic beauty of Scotland<\/a>, I finally set down some roots in England<\/a>. From the rolling hills and villages <\/a>of the Cotswolds<\/a> to England’s historic castles<\/a>, the country is remarkably<\/span> diverse and such an amazing place to explore when visiting Great Britain. That being said, let’s not forget some of the best cities to visit in England; that is amazing, too! <\/p>\n

Now, as with all cities in England, each has its own pretty-darn cool identity. Some are more historic, some are tiny, and others are vibrant and totally eclectic. Then there are one or two total global cities that seem to have everything. Regardless of what you’re looking for, there are a heap of the best cities to visit in England that are dotted all across the country and are perfect to visit for a city break. \"15<\/a><\/p>\n

You’re going to love England, especailly these cities which I just think are some of the must-sees! Have the most amazing time exploring. Oh, and as always, pop us a message if you need any more tips or advice when exploring these English cities. <\/p>\n

Okay, don’t tell the others, but Bath<\/a> is possibly one of the best cities to visit in England. Hands down, it’s one of my favourite places ot visit for a short city break. Not only that, Bath is small enough to explore on foot, which means it’s perfect if you’re not driving and don’t fancy spending lots of time commuting across larger cities. Bath is the kind of city that’s perfect for walking and exploring. <\/p>\n

Now, although Bath might be small, it really does pack a hefty punch when it comes to so many amazing things to see<\/a>, explore and experience. Whilst wandering around the city, make sure you visit the incredible Roman Baths<\/a>. Just make sure to grab these advanced Roman Baths tickets<\/a> before arriving – this way, you can avoid the queues to get in, which pile up at peak times.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, grab one (or 10) of the freshly-baked buns at Sally Lunn’s. This place has been around since the 1600s, and the buns are so tasty! With lashings of butter and any other toppings that take your fancy! We always end up gorging while here. <\/p>\n

Also, be sure to visit the Abbey and the Circus (think, much fewer acrobats and much more half-crescent, and a totally pretty street).<\/p>\n

If you’re looking for a little relaxation after traipsing the city, pop into the Thermae Bath Spa. It’s Britain’s only natural thermal spa, you’ll love it.<\/p>\n

For an amazing place to stay, book this room at The Gainsborough<\/a>. It’s the most amazing hotel and such a chic place to call home when you’re exploring the city. Not only that, they have the coolest cocktail bar and a spa that’ll make you not want to leave the hotel. We loved staying here, and it makes for an iconic stay whilst visiting the stunning city of Bath. We stayed at The Gainsborough for a few days, and I can’t wait to get back! <\/p>\n

2.) Norwich<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Okay, I feel guilty saying this, but my first ever trip to Norwich<\/a> was this year. Trust me when I say it’s a mistake for me to have left it so long! There are so many amazing things to do in Norwich<\/a>, which makes it one of the best cities in England to visit for an overnight trip to the city. Plus, just like Bath, it’s relatively small, which means you can walk around the city. There’s no need for car transport or public transport, to be honest. <\/p>\n

After eating your weight in delicious food, pop for a stroll around the city to see some of the historic centre<\/a>. Make sure to explore the iconic Norwich Cathedral<\/a>, wander around Elm Hill and visit the city’s amazing castle, too. Plus, don’t forget to wander around the Market Square area of central Norwich. This market has been going for centuries and is one of the oldest, continually held markets in all of England.<\/p>\n

Oh, and don’t forget the amazing Grosvenor Fish Bar<\/a>, which is honestly one of the best spots for fish and chips in the whole of England. The fish is always fresh and the chips and golden and crispy! <\/p>\n

3.) Cambridge<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cambridge<\/a> is a totally beautiful city that’s perched on the edges of the River Cam. Plus, it’s made even more famous by its university (where Yaya studied). There is so much history in Cambridge and the perfect city to visit for a day trip from London (it’s only 45 minutes by train). Plus, like Norwich and Bath, it’s also another beautifully walkable city. Which, in my opinion, is the best way to see Cambridge’s best places to visit<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Trust me, though, I don’t just like Cambridge because Yaya studied there; it really is one of the best cities to visit in England, even if you’re visiting for a shorter city break.<\/p>\n

Once there, grab a boat for a punt on the river (in the winter, wrap up warm and in the summer slap on that sunblock), which is epic. Also, wander around some of the amazing places to see, like King’s College Chapel. Oh, and if hunger beckons, gorge on a delicious brunch at Fitzbillies<\/a>, too. If you’re feeling fit, see the views from Great St. Mary’s Church Tower<\/a>, which is stunning. It’s one of the best vistas over King’s College and the rest of the city.<\/p>\n

For the best hotel in Cambridge<\/a>, make sure to book this room at the University Arms<\/a>. It’s such an ideal hotel to explore Cambridge as it’s right in the heart of the historic centre. We’ve stayed here quite a few times whilst revisiting Cambridge, and it’s right within the historic city centre. This makes it perfect to explore the city from. Plus, they have bikes that you can rent from the hotel to cycle around Cambridge. You’ll feel like a local in no time at all! <\/p>\n

Oh, and don’t forget to go punting! Head on the River Cam, on your very own punt and tour the city on the historic waterways. It’s such a beautiful way to see Cambridge. <\/p>\n

There are so many iconic sights to visit in London<\/a>. London isn’t just one of the best cities to visit in England, but (in my totally biased opinion) one of the best cities to explore in the world. I love it so much. Now, you will honestly need years to visit every iconic sight<\/a>, yummy restaurant, free London museums<\/a> and the historic palace in the city<\/a>. Though that’s all part of the fun of London. One trip is never enough! <\/p>\n

Now, first things first! You’ll need to decide which is the best area to stay in when visiting London<\/a>. This really depends on what you’re looking for. For instance, London has some epic shopping spots, like Covent Garden<\/a>, with amazing things to do<\/a> while you’re here. With Covent Garden Market, the Royal Opera House and the independent shops in the lanes. That being said, there’s so much more to London, too. You’ve got quite eclectic areas like Camden Town<\/a>, the beautiful Royal Borough of Greenwich<\/a> and more local areas like Peckham<\/a>, which has a vibrant Caribbean and African community. It has a proper foodie scene has some tasty spots to eat. <\/p>\n

After visiting the main sights like the British Museum<\/a> (which is free to enter), the London Eye (grab these advance tickets to avoid queuing), see Big Ben (and the Houses of Parliament), the Tower of London<\/a> (to see the crown jewels) and stopping off for a quick visit to the Royal home, Buckingham Palace. You can even peek inside and wander around the Staterooms within Buckingham Palace with these very tickets<\/a>. Just make sure to purchase these tickets in advance<\/a>; they sell out fast at peak times. <\/p>\n

For a great night out, pop over to neighbourhoods like Shoreditch<\/a>. Alternatively, check out some of these amazing bars with views<\/a> over London. If coffee is your thing, then make sure you visit some of the best independent coffee houses<\/a>. Oh, and don’t forget to head to the free viewpoint at the SkyGarden<\/a> at the top of one of London’s skyscrapers. It’s totally free, but you will need to book these free tickets<\/a> before arriving. <\/p>\n

Looking for the best hotel in London? Make sure to book this suite at Raffles London at The OWO<\/a>. It’s within the historic Westminster area of London and situated within the old War Office building, right next to Downing Street (where the Prime Minister lives). We love staying at this London hotel, and it’s one of the city’s most iconic hotels<\/a>; that’s totally stunning. Oh, and be sure to visit their secret subterranean spy bar<\/a>. This is the very place where spies would once meet! Nowadays, they serve some of the best cocktails in the city. It’s all very hush-hush! <\/p>\n

Now, I’m aware, Bristol<\/a> is one of those cities that might not spring to mind when you initially think of visiting some cities in England. Perched near Bath, it’s really easy to get here by train or car.<\/p>\n

Whilst taking a wander around the city, make sure to visit the Clifton Suspension Bridge, explore Bristol Cathedral and stroll around Harbourside. Also, for a tasty sweet treat, pop into Margot May,<\/em> who makes the yummiest scones in all of England.<\/p>\n

You can easily visit Bath for a day or an overnight stay. Then, easily head over to nearby Bath<\/a> and pair up both cities in one trip. They’re both very close to each other and have such different vibes, which is so worth seeing. <\/p>\n

6.) Brighton<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Brighton<\/a> is one of those English cities that rivals London as one of the best cities to visit in England. Filled with its ancient narrow lanes, full of quirky shops and bars, Brighton is a great spot to visit on a day trip from London. The Royal Pavilion and Pier are definitely one spot to visit whilst you’re there (with a 99 ice cream<\/em> in hand, of course). Plus, Brighton also has a totally vibrant nightlife with loads of live music bands, which I know you enjoy.<\/p>\n

For a lovely spot to stay at, book into the Hotel du Vin<\/a> with its sweeping staircase and quirky rooms, or stay in a Georgian terrace at Blanch House close to the seafront. We loved it, and it’s so perfect to stay whilst exploring wider Brighton, the Lanes (for all the shops and cafes) and the famous beach!<\/p>\n

7.) Durham<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One of the best ways to arrive in Durham is by train; well, in my opinion, anyway. As the train pulls in, you’ll get a glimpse of how gorgeous the city is – all nestled within the stunning natural landscape of northern England. Once you’re there, make sure to pop into the Romanesque cathedral overlooking this small city. Oh, and don’t forget to bring your camera; It’s stunning.<\/p>\n

The cathedral is surrounded by cobbled lanes that are pretty picturesque. Nearby, the city\u2019s ancient university and Crook Hall is also great to see.  For a yummy treat, pop into Glady’s Vintage Tea Room,<\/em> which makes the tastiest breakfast and freshly brewed teas.<\/p>\n

Hull is often an underrated spot when it comes to the best cities to visit in England, but that’s all changing. Historically, the city has a long history with the sea, with local fishing communities making this city what it is. Not only that, it’s also been awarded as a capital of culture city within England, which is a great sign for its development.<\/p>\n

Awarded the UK\u2019s City of Culture last year, Hull is a pretty up-and-coming spot to visit.  Now, it has several quaint museums, like the Wilberforce House Museum and Hull Maritime Museum, to visit. Also, they have a pretty epic spot you might (or might not) wanna see. Don’t forget to wander around the historic old town, visit Ferens Art Gallery and the stunning Holy Trinity Church.<\/p>\n

When you’re in the city, make sure to explore the stunning John Rylands Library, see the Tyrannosaurus Rex at The Manchester Museum and explore the Manchester Art Gallery.<\/p>\n

Once the centre of the historic lace in England, Nottingham is now much more than its lacey heritage. Today, Nottingham is a great location for a cultural break and one of the best cities to visit in England. This is especially true if you like to explore some of its amazing histories.<\/p>\n

The Creative Corner has the Castle Museum, the Lace Market and the original shop of fashion icon Paul Smith to visit. Plus, outside the city is the legendary Sherwood Forest, home of Robin Hood.<\/p>\n

Finally, an absolutely gorgeous hotel is the Lace Market Hotel<\/a> with views of the historic neighbourhood. It’s incredible and well worth staying in when exploring the city or the wider region around Nottingham. We loved it. <\/p>\n

12.) Portsmouth<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Portsmouth<\/a> has long been known as the home of the British Navy and one place that’s dominated by the sea.<\/p>\n

Its harbour has been a military port since the early days of Henry VII, making this one historical and best cities to visit in England.<\/p>\n

Once you’ve arrived in Portsmouth<\/a>, visit the Historic Dockyard, which has HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and Henry VIII\u2019s 16th-century flagship Mary Rose. From the top of the Spinnaker Tower, you can also see great views over the Solent to the Isle of Wight<\/a>. Speaking of the Isle of Wight<\/a>, if you’ve got time, I’d also make the trip over to the nearby island. It has some amazing beaches, beautiful villages and is well worth driving around for a day trip from Portsmouth. You will love it. <\/p>\n

It doesn’t matter how many times I visit York<\/a>, it never gets old! There’s always something new (or old) to explore, see and experience.<\/p>\n

If it’s your first time here, make sure to walk around the ancient parts of the city centre. Plus, follow the 14th-century walls that enclose the medieval city and stop off at all the little boutiques you’ll find.<\/p>\n

Okay, so this is more of a town than a city –  but I couldn’t resist! Known as the birthplace of William Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon<\/a> is a gorgeous place that’s nestled in the English countryside.<\/p>\n

When you’re here, you can visit the birthplace of Shakespeare and learn much more about his life. You’ll also see Anne Hathaway\u2019s Cottage, the theatres of the Swan and Royal Shakespeare, to name but a few. Afterwards, take a relaxing stroll along the river or visit one of the many pubs in the historic centre. Honestly, these alone make it one of the best cities to visit in England to visit. <\/p>\n

One of the things I love most about Bournemouth is its seven miles of sandy beaches and lovely Victorian parks. Best of all, Bournemouth is actually one of England’s warmest places in England, too. This all makes it one of the best cities to visit in England if you’re looking for a less chilly spot and a more relaxed vibe. After all, it’s much less busy than cities like London or Manchester. <\/p>\n

Close by, you’ll also find the start of the Jurassic Coast<\/a> with Old Harry Rocks, Durdle Door<\/a> and some gorgeous little hamlets to explore. Oh, and don’t forget, you should go and look at the world\u2019s shortest funicular railway linking the beach to the cliff-top.<\/p>\n
