Scandinavian food is delicious but also it’s an incredible region of Europe to visit. I’s stunning places are just made even better with all the best Scandinavian dishes to try.   <\/p>\n

Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you’re visiting Norway<\/a>, Sweden<\/a>, Denmark<\/a> or countries like the Faroe Islands<\/a>, Iceland<\/a> and Finland;<\/a> there’s a whole heap of incredible things to see do, and of course, gobble down.<\/p>\n

Of course, with everyone vying for the enviable rights to be Scandinavian, there’s a whole ‘thing’ about what countries can actually be Scandinavian.<\/p>\n

Well, I’ve always been brought up with the notion that ‘the more invited guests to the party, the more fun you’ll have’ – with that in mind, I’m including the incredible Faroe Islands, Iceland and Finland here.<\/p>\n

After all, it can’t be just the bigwigs of Sweden, Norway and Denmark that get all that foody glory, am I right?<\/p>\n

Anyway, before I ramble on anymore, I want to share some of the tastiest foods you have to try in Scandinavia. There’s a whole range of tasty Scandinavian food you’ll love.<\/p>\n

Just don’t blame me for not putting your fork down. \ud83e\udd23<\/p>\n

1.) Slurp a bowl of Lohikeitto<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Although technically Finnish, we had the tastiest bowl of this while in the Norwegian Arctic Circle<\/a> whilst sailing (and jumping in the freezing Arctic Sea<\/a>).<\/p>\n

2.) Grab a slice of Sm\u00f6rg\u00e5st\u00e5rta<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This has to be one of my favourite Scandinavian food. Plus, it’s easily one of the best Scandinavian dishes you can grab whilst in Sweden<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n

Oh, and if you like a hearty sandwich, this is for you!<\/p>\n

A Sm\u00f6rg\u00e5st\u00e5rta is almost like a savoury cake. It’s built with layers and topping and decorated in a similar fashion – the only difference is that it’s not sweet! The Swedes even cut it like a cake.<\/p>\n

3.) Have a tasty Kanelsnegl<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Kanelsnegls (totaly a Scandinavian food) seems to be everywhere right now and totally in vogue in the UK and USA.<\/p>\n

I think we’d most likely refer to them as cinnamon rolls but they’re more commonly known as Kanelsnegls. It’s easily one of the best Scandinavia dishes to try that’s even gone beyond the borders of Scandinavia itself. <\/p>\n

4.) Try Surstr\u00f6mming or Matjessill<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Surstr\u00f6mming is a typical Swedish food that roughly translates to picked herring or sour herring. Best served with freshly boiled potatoes, lots of chives and lashings of sour cream.<\/p>\n

5.) Grab a Kvikk Lunsj<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Yep, it has to be done. One of the best things that got me through our hike up to the top of Pulpit Rock<\/a> in Norway<\/a> was the masses of Kvikk Lunsj<\/a> we had in our rucksack.<\/p>\n

6.) Grab a slice of Geothermal heated R\u00fagbrau\u00f0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When you’re in Iceland<\/a>, make sure to stop off at places like the Frost & Fire Hotel<\/a> or Laugarvatn Fontana<\/a> geothermal pools where they’ll actually cook R\u00fagbrau\u00f0 from the geothermal activity in the ground.<\/p>\n

It’s a simple as digging a hole, placing a pan on the heated earth and waiting for it to bake.<\/p>\n

Nothing tastes as good as freshly baked bread and this is no exception. Partner it with lashings of butter and you’re onto a winner.<\/p>\n

7.) Grab a Pylsa (or Pulsa)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

I’m always unsure of which to use as they seem to be interchangeable but in English, we’d call them hot dogs.<\/p>\n

One of the things that most surprised me was how hot dogs seemed to be a ‘thing’ in Iceland<\/a>. Obviously, no one wants to feel left out so I gobbled my way through a bucket load during our last visit.<\/p>\n

Make sure to grab a toasty hot dog from B\u00e6jarins Beztu Pylsur hot dog stand in Reykjavik<\/a>.<\/p>\n

8.) Chow down on some slices of Gravlax<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Simply put, Gravlax is thinly sliced salmon which is often given as a little appetizer or ‘fil-me-up’. Sprinkled with a little salt and sugar, it might also be partnered with potatoes or rye bread (and lashings of dill or mustard).<\/p>\n

I love a good sm\u00f8rrebr\u00f8d, which, I swear, taste best in the stunning city of Copenhagen<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Think of a sm\u00f8rrebr\u00f8d as a sort of open sandwich that’s one of the most famous and best Scandinavian dishes to try. <\/p>\n

It has no top but it’s piled with fillings such as fresh fish, meats, cheeses, salads, pate and spreads.<\/p>\n

There are a huge variety of different sm\u00f8rrebr\u00f8ds<\/a> to choose from and it’s almost blasphemous to just try one…isn’t it? (That’s my excuse for eating more anyway).<\/p>\n

When we visited the Faroe Islands<\/a>, we headed straight over to Barbara’s<\/a> in T\u00f3rshavn<\/a>; the tiny capital city of the Faroe Islands<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This Bilberry soup is actually a different berry from Blueberry (from the USA).<\/p>\n
