Vancouver<\/a> is an amazing city to visit! It’s one of those incredible places in Canada<\/a> that has a buzzing city life but is also so close to the dramatic natural spots in British Columbia. This is exactly why I wanted to share our itinerary and guide to visiting Vancouver for a week. <\/p>\n

You see, the thing is, British Columbia<\/a> is a huge and stunning province to explore, but you’ll likely need to plan well if you want to venture from Vancouver on a few daytrips whilst on a trip to the city. All easily done, so don’t fret! That being said, it’s certainly possible to get a great taste of Vancouver and a little time away from the city during a one-week trip.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t matter if it’s your first, second or fiftieth time in the city, there’s always something new, spots, places to explore, or gobble down in the best restaurants in Vancouver<\/a>.  I swear, I gained 100lbs after our last visit.<\/p>\n

Obviously, it’s not just the food that makes Vancouver so exciting (though they play a big part)! It really is one of the best cities to explore if you want to visit Canada. <\/p>\n

Day one<\/strong><\/h3>\n

2 pm. Arrival in Vancouver: <\/strong>From airport, train, boat or car. We arrived via direct flights from London to Vancouver and there’s a number of ways to get to downtown from the airport itself.<\/p>\n

We chose a taxi which is approximately $50-80 CAD. You can also grab the SkyTrain\u2019s Canada Line which takes about 26 minutes (give or take a few seconds) and costs around $10-15 per adult.<\/p>\n

4 pm. Check into the hotel:<\/strong> We stayed at the Hyatt Vancouver Downtown Alberni<\/a>, which is inside the city’s tallest building! It’s based on 1128 West Georgia Street and is literally as central as you can get. The whole area around the hotel is amazing, and the breakfast at the hotel is just too good to ignore. It really is a special place.<\/p>\n

\"Photos<\/a><\/p>\n

7 pm. Dinner at MARKET:<\/strong> If you’ve flown a long flight to arrive in Vancouver, try to adjust to the new time zone as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

The easiest way I’ve found to do this is around food. Head for an indulgent dinner at Carlino, one of Vancouver’s best Italian spots<\/a>, inside the Hyatt Vancouver Downtown Alberni<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Plus, if that doesn’t take your fancy, check out some of the other best restaurants in Vancouver<\/a> to visit that are just around the corner. This way, you can pick and choose what you include in your own itinerary and guide to visiting Vancouver.<\/p>\n

Day two<\/strong><\/h3>\n

8 am. Morning breakfast:<\/strong> After a long night’s sleep to get over your jet lag, head downstairs for breakfast at your hotel.<\/p>\n

Fill up with lots of slower-releasing sugars that’ll bump up your energy levels later in the day.<\/p>\n

9:15 am Arrive at Cycle City Tours:<\/strong> Rock up at Cycle City Tours<\/a> for your cycling tour at 9:30 am. Get kitted out in your safety gear, listen to the safety talk and head out into the city to enjoy some of the picture-perfect places you’ll explore.<\/p>\n

City Cycle Tours<\/a> offer some amazing, guided bike rides around Vancouver.<\/p>\n

Don’t worry, you won’t need to be an Olympic cyclist to do this, and it’s so relaxed and easy. The Original Tour includes a three-hour ride<\/a> to sites like Stanley Park and the city itself. It’s a really great way to explore the city.<\/p>\n

We loved it so much and had a total blast. Honestly, on a sunny day, it’s one of the best things to include on an itinerary and guide to visiting Vancouver when you’re there. <\/p>\n

\"Here's<\/a><\/p>\n

12:30 pm.<\/strong> Lunch at Nightingale: Nightingale is a cool joint to devour a good lunch in the city that’s located in a historic building in Vancouver’s Coal Harbour.<\/p>\n

They make some delicious, fresh meals and have a huge array of microbrews for you to try.<\/p>\n

2:00 pm Head over to Grouse Mountain:<\/strong> Either take a taxi (around $30-40 or take the free shuttle that runs from Canada Place (departing every 30 minutes in peak times).<\/p>\n

Grouse Mountain<\/a> is about 15-minutes after crossing the Lions Gate Bridge.<\/p>\n

\"Finding<\/a><\/p>\n

Head to the top of Grouse Mountain by cable car<\/a> and you’ll be transformed into a snowy world of outdoor skating, snowshoeing, skiing and snowboarding. In summer, you’ll still find lots of snow, but it\u2019s truly a hiker\u2019s dream with a heap of trails, the Grouse Grind, and mountaintop trails of varying intensity that’ll suit most hikers.<\/p>\n

Just make sure to pack a coat, it can get chilly when you’re this high up. We totally love it here and always seem to visit on every trip to Vancouver; it’s a highlight for our itinerary and guide to visiting Vancouver, for sure!<\/p>\n

7:00 pm. Dinner at L\u2019Abattoir:<\/strong> Serving the most delicious French-inspired grub, L\u2019Abattoir<\/a> is perched inside the city’s very first jail in Gastown<\/a>. This cool and yummy restaurant is a great find after a long day exploring Grouse Mountain. Make sure to try their chorizo-crusted ling cod fillet and clams.<\/p>\n

10:15 am. Head over to Granville Island:<\/strong> Meet the Vancouver Foodie Tour<\/a> guide and head across this tasty area of the city to try almost everything in sight! The tour lasts around 2 hours, where you’ll rub elbows with some of the best food producers in the city.<\/p>\n

\"Eating<\/a><\/p>\n

During the tour, you’ll gorge on some locally produced cheeses, fluffy doughnuts, blended teas and some delicious Mexican food.<\/p>\n

Each tour might be slightly different (which is all part of the fun). This is a totally great thing to include in your itinerary and guide to visiting Vancouver if you’re a foodie and want to try some of the tasty foodie haunts in the Granville Island<\/a> area.<\/p>\n

\"Eating<\/a><\/p>\n

1:00 pm. Explore Chinatown:<\/strong> After filling your tummy all morning, I guarantee you won’t want to stop for a huge bite to eat. Instead, head across to Chinatown for a wander around some of the shops, bars and historical sites.<\/p>\n

Make sure to stop off for a drink at Keefer Bar and Fortune Sound Club and check out the Rennie Collection<\/a> at Wing Sang (which offers free entry).<\/p>\n

You can also visit some of the firm favourites such as Dr Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden<\/a> and the Millennium Gate.<\/p>\n

5:00 pm. Arrive at Vancouver Water Adventures:<\/strong> Back on Granville Island <\/a>(1812 Boatlift Lane), check in for your boat tour that departs at 5:30 pm on a Bowen Island Dinner tour.<\/p>\n

Once you arrive at Bown Island, you’ll have a little chance to wander around the area before gorging on all the yummy food at Doc Morgan’s.<\/p>\n

10:00 pm. Sleep:<\/strong> Catch an early night before the long day ahead.<\/p>\n

Day four <\/strong><\/h3>\n

6:30 am. Breakfast:<\/strong> Fill up at your hotel’s breakfast.<\/p>\n

7:15 am.<\/strong> Pick up a rental car in downtown Vancouver for a day of driving and exploring outside of the city.<\/p>\n

8:00 am. Drive to Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal:<\/strong> This will take around 30 minutes or so, but leave yourself plenty of time as you’ll want to buy tickets for the ferry crossing to Langdale<\/a>.  <\/p>\n

9:25 am. Depart on Ferry:<\/strong> Depart Horseshoe Bay for Langdale. The crossing time varies ever so slightly but usually takes around 40 minutes or so.<\/p>\n

10:10 am. Arrive in Langdale and the Sunshine Coast<\/strong>: After driving off the ferry, it’s time to explore the gorgeous area around the Sunshine Coast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With over 100 miles of coastline, this area is a perfect place to explore the laid-back charm of British Columbia.<\/p>\n

11:00 am. Drive to Gibsons Landing:<\/strong> Head over to Gibsons Landing<\/a> to explore a little of this place.<\/p>\n

12:30 pm. Eat at Gibsons Public Market:<\/strong> This intimate little market<\/a> has around 10-12 food stalls and shops that offer some of the local area’s best produce.<\/p>\n

Make a stop, take a wander around this quaint place and head upstairs to enjoy some freshly prepped food and even some art when exhibitions are on show.<\/p>\n

1:30 pm. Hike to Soames Hill:<\/strong> One of the best ways to see this area of British Columbia is on foot, and located just above Gibson<\/a> and a few miles from the ferry terminal, is a relatively short 40-minute (self-guided) hike to conquer ‘The Knob’.<\/p>\n

Once at the top, you’ll come across some amazing views of Gibson Harbour, Vancouver Island, Gambier and Bowen. To access this trail, it’s best to enter from 481 Esperanza Road (SW entrance).<\/p>\n

2:45 pm. Scenic Driver along Gower Point Road to Ocean Beach:<\/strong> Head on this coastal drive<\/a> for an hour or so to enjoy some of the true wilderness of this impressive place.<\/p>\n

Follow the coastal road and stop off whenever you wish. It really is a lovely drive.<\/p>\n

4:15 pm. Head to Gibsons Tapworks:<\/strong> Gibsons Tapworks<\/a> is an intimate microbrewery that prides itself on high-quality craft beer.<\/p>\n

Just make sure not to give any to the driver.<\/p>\n

4:45 pm. Grab some freshly caught oysters:<\/strong> One of the best things about the ocean is that there’s an abundance of seafood to eat. Head over to Smitty’s Oyster House<\/a> to grab a few freshly prepared oysters.<\/p>\n

5:45 pm. Persephone’s Brewing Company:<\/strong>  After eating all those oysters, you’ll need a little tipple to wash it all down.<\/p>\n

Head over to Persephone’s Brewing Company<\/a>, which is home to an 11-acre farm and microbrewery in Gibsons<\/a>. Make sure to try their grapefruit beer – it’s too delicious to miss! As with the previous alcohol experience, I’m afraid the driver will need to sit this one out.<\/p>\n

6:20 pm leave for Langdale Ferry Terminal:<\/strong> The ferry terminal is about a 5-minute drive from Persephone’s Brewing Company.<\/p>\n

6:50 pm. Sail time<\/strong>: Set sail from Langdale (Gibsons) to Horseshoe Bay. It’s one of the days to include in your itinerary and guide to visiting Vancouver if you’re fancying a more chilled-out pace for sure. <\/p>\n

9:00 pm. Paint the town red<\/strong>: If you still have some energy, head over to Biltmore Cabaret<\/a>, which hosts a variety of different nights each day of the week. From comedy, cabaret to rock, this amazing venue is a must when in Vancouver.<\/p>\n

Day five<\/strong><\/h3>\n

8:00 am. Breakfast at Jam Caf\u00e9:<\/strong> Enjoy breakfast at Jam Caf\u00e9<\/a>, which is one of the most prized places to brunch (or breakfast) in the city. Be warned, by 9:00 am you will be queuing for a table.<\/p>\n

I hate queueing, so arrive early to avoid disappointment and lengthy delays.<\/p>\n

Make sure you try their Chicken N\u2019 Waffles, which is made up from a fluffy waffle with a succulent buttermilk fried chicken breast, oodles of gravy and topped off with two sunny eggs.<\/p>\n

10:00 am Depart for Sea to Sky Gondola<\/strong>: Hop into your car and head on a 1-hour drive from downtown Vancouver to the Sea to Sky Gondola<\/a> in Squamish<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The address for your GPS is 36800 Highway 99, Squamish.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/a><\/p>\n

11:15 am Head up the Sky Gondola:<\/strong> Relatively new to the area, the Sea to Sky Gondola<\/a> is one epic ride that will take you to the very top of the mountains and alpine meadows. If you’re an experienced hiker, you can actually hike to the top.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, follow one of the designated trails once you arrive at the summit.<\/p>\n

Don’t forget to walk over the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge, too.<\/p>\n

12:00 pm. First Nations Guide:<\/strong> Meet your local First Nations guide at the fire pit at Bodhi\u2019s Plaza and head out on a guided Talking Trees tour<\/a> that lasts around 90-minutes.<\/p>\n

1:30 pm. Grab a bite to eat:<\/strong> Enjoy lunch at the Summit Eatery before heading down the Sea to Sky Gondola.<\/p>\n

3:00 pm. Departure<\/strong>: Depart Sea to Sky Gondola<\/a>.<\/p>\n

4:00 pm Arrive back downtown<\/strong>: Take a moment to relax and to rest up before dinner.<\/p>\n

7:00 pm Dinner at Ancora Dining:<\/strong> After a long day out of the city, head over to Ancora<\/a> for a tasty treat of West Coast foods with a swirl of Peruvian and Japanese influence. Make sure you try their Seared scallops and pork belly. So tasty! <\/p>\n

Day six<\/strong><\/h3>\n

8:00 am. Breakfast:<\/strong> Breakfast at the hotel<\/p>\n

9:00 am. Head to the harbour front<\/strong>: One amazing perk of staying at the Park Hayatt Hotel<\/a> is that they organise a whole host of trips for us visitors to explore the region outside of the city itself.<\/p>\n

Remember, you can also book the seaplane<\/a> yourself (if you’re staying somewhere else) and have this experience, too. <\/p>\n

When you book, make sure to ask about pre-booking their tour to Whistler<\/a>, which we did this day. It was unforgettable and something that’s incredible to include on your itinerary and guide to visiting Vancouver, especially if you love great views. <\/p>\n

9:30 am. Take a seaplane to Whistler:<\/strong> Depart the harbourfront by seaplane<\/a> for a 45-minute flight to Whistler.<\/p>\n

Make sure to take your camera, the views are out of this world!<\/p>\n

11:00 am Arrival in Whistler:<\/strong> Shuttle from Green Lake to Whistler Village<\/a>.<\/p>\n

12 noon. Lunch:<\/strong> Head across to Bar Oso<\/a>, which has a range of tapas-inspired meals that are so delicious! They also make some epic cocktails and make a mean Negroni. <\/p>\n

1:30 pm. Canoe the River of Golden Dreams:<\/strong> Meet Canadian Wilderness Adventures<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You can book online or in person and meet at the Canadian Wilderness Adventures desk across from Ziptrek in the Carleton Lodge, located at 4280 Mountain Square, next to the Longhorn Saloon. This is a paddler’s paradise (as long as the wind is in your favour). You’ll start your canoe at Alta Lake before heading into the gentle currents and winding river and narrow passages of the river itself.<\/p>\n

The whole canoe trip takes around 3 hours and is one of the most picturesque canoe journeys you can do.<\/p>\n

You’ll end your trip at Green Lake<\/a>, where you’ll hop on board the shuttle back to the Whistler Village.<\/p>\n

6:00 pm. A shuttle from Whistler Village:<\/strong> Leave Whistler for your seaplane back to Vancouver.<\/p>\n

8:00 pm. Arrival in Vancouver:<\/strong> After a whirlwind day in Whistler, head back to the city centre.<\/p>\n

8:30 pm. Dinner:<\/strong> Head over to The Botanist<\/a> for one of the most iconic meals in the city. Not only that, they have the iconic Botanist Bar that conjures up some of the tastiest cocktails in BC. <\/p>\n

Alternatively, check out some of these yummy restaurants<\/a>. Honestly, you’re going to be spoilt for choice when it comes to food here. Plus, you’ll have earned every bite after exploring all the points on our itinerary and guide to visiting Vancouver. Go on, grab another dessert! <\/p>\n

10:30 am. Drive to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park:<\/strong> About 20-minutes from the city centre.<\/p>\n

11:00 am. Arrive at Capilano Suspension Bridge:<\/strong> Capilano Suspension Bridge Park<\/a> is a great place to explore one of Vancouver’s oldest attractions.<\/p>\n

The swaying bridge hangs a whopping 70 metres above the Capilano River below, and the perfect crossing to explore the Treetops Adventure<\/a> and cliff walk that you can do when inside the park.<\/p>\n

1:00 pm. Head back to Vancouver:<\/strong> Drive back to the city.<\/p>\n

1:30 pm. Lunch at Meat & Bread:<\/strong> Head over to Meat & Bread<\/a> for one of the city’s most yummy sandwich spots that’ll guarantee you a hearty meal!  Their spicy mayo is totally amazing, too!<\/p>\n

8:30 pm. Dinner at Savio Volpe:<\/strong> One place you can’t miss whilst in Vancouver is Savio Volpe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This has to be one of my favourite restaurants during our whole visit (shhh, don’t tell the others), it’s a little outside the city centre (about 10-minutes by taxi), and it’s worth every second!<\/p>\n
