Before we arrived into France\u2019s Dordogne Valley, I\u2019d never heard about Sarlat.<\/p>\n

This changed almost the minute we walked outside of the airport as everyone we spoke to recommended that we visit. <\/p>\n

Arecommendation we took very much to heart.<\/p>\n

After leaving the beautiful sleepy French town of Martel, we made our way over to Sarlat where we would be spending the night.<\/p>\n

We arrived in the evening just as the sun turned golden and wasted no time whatsoever in getting to know Sarlat.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a><\/p>\n

FYI, the hype was worth it. I\u2019m always impressed when I visit these villages, towns and cities in France where they\u2019ve still managed to stay true to so much of their history.<\/p>\n

No shiny glass and steel towers here or overly modern houses, Sarlat is once again like stepping into a true French fairytale (or at least what I imagine that one would look like).<\/p>\n

It\u2019s one of the best-preserved towns in France and as it turns out, has been something of an open secret for British holidaymakers who like a fancy holiday or two but would much rather skip the stereotypical French crowd.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the kind of place you visit if you\u2019ve got some basic knowledge of French you want to bandy about but by no means is the ability to speak French a prerequisite for visiting. (Sarlat is also renowned for its Foie Gras but I\u2019d happily skip that \u2013 I\u2019m still not into Foie Gras).<\/p>\n

We slowly meandered through the town (we would be exploring it some more the next morning properly) and soaked in the fantastic rustic French vibe the town was exuding so effortlessly.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a><\/p>\n

\"The<\/a><\/p>\n

\"The<\/a><\/p>\n

Before long though, as with all things travel, our minds started to turn towards food and we made a beeline for an amazing restaurant in the old part of the town, Les Jardins d\u2019Harmonie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The food was pretty fantastic here (it wasn\u2019t the prettiest but what it lacked in aesthetics, it more than made up for in taste and that\u2019s what counts).<\/p>\n

We finished off the night in a cocktail bar, before eventually trudging up the road to our hotel for the night! So far, I was very taken with Sarlat and couldn\u2019t wait to see what it had in store for us the next day.<\/p>\n

Also, Sarlat’s poised to become recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site very soon so look out for that.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
