When you find yourself in \u00d8ye, there’s really only one place you should be staying in and that’s the Hotel Union \u00d8ye<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Why? Hotel Union \u00d8ye<\/a> is a very special place \u2013 this was THE place where the aristocracy from Europe stayed in and it\u2019s a interesting part of Norway\u2019s culture and history.<\/p>\n

The hotel has been here since the 1800s and I ended up finding myself in the room where Queen Wilhelmina of Holland stayed in on here visits! Very la-dee-da!<\/p>\n

So many other important figures in European history have stayed and continue to stay at the hotel (you can find out more on the Hotel\u2019s website here<\/a>) so needless to say, a stay here guarantees you pretty solid \u2018humblebraging<\/em>\u2019 rights to your friends back at home.<\/p>\n

Even if you\u2019re driving past \u2013 I reckon you need to stop for some tea\/lunch\/dinner and check out the hotel properly. You can sneak a peek into some of it\u2019s stately and historic room and gain a little insight into what life for the Royal families of ages past looked like.<\/p>\n

The hotel is made entirely of wood (as Norwegian homes have been for some time) and its just a delight to wander through. In a lot of way, it kinda reminded me of visiting old stately homes in the UK (and even a tad of Buckingham palace) with its d\u00e9cor.<\/p>\n

Wandering of course makes for thirsty work so we headed down to the tea room for (you guessed it<\/em>), a spot of tea and biscuits.<\/p>\n

The plan for the rest of the afternoon was to relax and kick back at the hotel but beautiful and relaxing as it was here (seriously, it was so lovely and warm inside I was pretty much in snooze-town), we decided to head out to explore the Norangsdalen valley and search for that famous and rather intriguing lake which used to be a village\u2026<\/p>\n
