I maaaaay have over-indulged at dinner the night before.<\/p>\n

The good thing about that though \u2013 combined with the clear sea breeze meant that I slept rather<\/em> soundly that night. (Seriously, nothing beats a good night\u2019s sleep when you\u2019re travelling).<\/p>\n

The next morning (after breakfast, of course), packed our bags, bade farewell to our hotel in Alesund<\/a>, picked up the car and hit the Norwegian roads!<\/p>\n

We didn\u2019t even get to drive too far before having to stop to take in the stunning view of the countryside.<\/p>\n

\"Alesund<\/a><\/p>\n

As it turns out, this would end up being a theme of our trip across Norway and guarantee that it would take us almost twice as long to drive anywhere \u2013 its just that beautiful here!<\/p>\n

We headed off to Solav\u00e5gen to catch the ferry to Fest\u00f8y, which we missed by minutes \u2013which in turn, ended up being the perfect opportunity to get a taster of what we were off in search of in the Norwegian countryside, those amazing fjords!<\/p>\n

\u2026where we then caught the connecting ferry across the Hj\u00f8rundfjord and the surrounding Sunnm\u00f8re alps to Leknes.<\/p>\n

By the way, you just drive right up to the ferry here so you needn\u2019t worry about how you\u2019re gonna get your car across \u2013 all the ferries take the cars on board. (Might sound like an obvious fact to some people but coming from the UK, we don\u2019t really do ferry crossing to get around the country \u2013 we usually have trains so it was an interesting experience to drive everywhere and connect using ferries).<\/p>\n

Now, it\u2019s got to be said – the drive right from Alesund right through to Leknes and eventually ending in \u00d8ye (for the day anyway) is a pretty spectacular drive and filled with so many reasons to make a pit stop!<\/p>\n

In fact, if you\u2019ve got time \u2013 I reckon you should pack yourself a picnic and just stop anywhere that takes your fancy along the way and take some time to fully appreciate the Norwegian countryside (weather permitting \u2013 we had t-shirt weather, the warmest I\u2019ve ever experienced in Norway).<\/p>\n
