BBC drama could end after 3 hit series on air, says show creator – despite signing up string of huge stars as leads

A POPULAR BBC drama is set to hit our screens again very soon – but the show’s creator has now said this could be the last series.

BBC One‘s prison drama Time is heading back to the box, and this time it has David Tennant, 55, at the helm.

But speaking about the possibility of a fourth series, Time’s creator Jimmy McGovern told this week’s Radio Times: “I think this will be the last Time.

“I have said that many a time before, though, because these are also stories I feel bound to tell.”

Actor David Tennant also spoke to the magazine, and said: “It’s a Jimmy McGovern script, I’ve never worked with him, he’s the guv’nor and this is an opportunity I can’t pass up.”

Joining the Doctor Who star in the cast is Siobhan Finneran, 60, who also starred in the previous two seasons.

“I’ve probably always thought the system was broken. Especially doing this series, you think: these boys are damaged when they go in there and there’s not enough time or resources to help them while they’re there,” she told the Radio Times.

Time premiered its first episode back in 2021, starring Sean Bean and Stephen Graham.

The show follows the lives of inmates and staff inside of a prison in the UK, where characters face moral dilemmas, wrestle with guilt, and the difficulty of coming to terms with their new reality behind bars.

Meanwhile series two was set in a women’s prison, with the cast being led by Jodie Whittaker, Siobhan Finneran, Bella Ramsey, and Tamara Lawrance.

The new third season of Time will take viewers inside of a young offender institution, with Siobhan being the only cast member to reprise their role.

As the youths grapple with adjusting to life on the inside, custodial managers Bobby Bailey (David Tennant) and Freddie Jennings (Daniel Ryan) will do what they can to keep things in order.

The series will also star Vinette Robinson as Erica, Jo Joyner as Nicola, Warren Brown as Albie and Ethaniel Davy as Jayden.

Time returns to BBC One on October 11
