Here’s edge 70 Plus official as Motorola joins the magnetic charging party
Motorola has used this week’s IFA 2026 tech show in Berlin to announce a range of new devices, including the Motorola Edge 70 Plus mid-range smartphone and a new MagSafe-style wireless charger.
The Motorola Edge 70 Plus features an 8.49mm-thick quad-curved plastic design with a 196g weight. It’s only IP64 rated, which isn’t brilliant even for a mid-range phone these days, though military-grade MIL-STD-810H durability is welcome.
More positive news comes from the presence of a large 6500mAh battery and support for 45W wired charging – although the days of cheaper Motorola phones that support wireless charging seem to have passed.
It does support bypass charging, though, which means you can power the phone while gaming, and it won’t heat up. Not that the Motorola Edge 70 Plus will be particularly well suited to such things.

Motorola
Continuing something of an unwelcome trend for recent Motorola phones, it runs on a chip that’s slightly below its price point. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 performance found here was previously seen on the Nothing Phone (3a) – a phone that retailed for £200 less when it launched more than a year ago.
It’s supported by a vapour chamber for cooling, and paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage.
The display looks to be on point: a 6.78-inch AMOLED with a 2772 x 1272 resolution, HDR10/10+ support, a 144Hz maximum refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 5200 nits. This is flanked by dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support.
There’s a new 200Mp main camera here, which is the highest resolution Motorola has ever gone with. The presence of a dedicated 2Mp macro camera in place of both a dedicated telephoto and an ultra-wide is a bit of a downer, though. There’s also a 32Mp selfie cam.
The Motorola Edge 70 Plus will be available to order over the coming weeks at a starting price of £499.99 for 128GB of storage, moving up to £529.99 for 256GB.
It’s the latest of many Edge 70 models, including the Edge 70, Edge 70 Pro, Edge 70 Ultra and Edge 70 Fusion.
Moto Snap magnetic wireless charger
The new Moto Snap is a new Qi2.2 wireless charger that supplies up to 25W wireless charging speeds to compatible devices, and up to 30W charging on compatible Motorola devices. It follows Google’s Pixelsnap accessories, which launched with the Pixel 10 series last year.
If you’re wondering why Motorola would launch such a thing alongside a phone that doesn’t even support wireless charging, well, that’s a pretty good question.
Motorola does have a Qi2.2-compatible phone in its range, however, in the Motorola Edge 70 Max, which was announced back in July.

Motorola claims that the Moto Snap is “optimised for efficient, cooler charging and zero standby power consumption”.
It ships with a 1.5m braided USB Type-C cable, and can also be bundled in with a stand that boasts a soft silicone-lined holder and an aluminium hinge for adjustable viewing angles.
The Moto Snap will be sold for £39.99, with sales expected from 24 September and stock expected in October.
