Understanding samsung will only give some Galaxy S27 models a Privacy Display

Samsung is apparently being a little more withholding with its Privacy Display technology than previously reported.

Back in early July, a report from South Korea suggested that Samsung was planning to greatly expand the Privacy Display technology that debuted in the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

It was claimed that the clever feature, which blacks out screen content for all but the phone’s user, would be coming to the entire Samsung Galaxy S27 range early next year.

Now a new report from the region suggests this may not be the case.

According to ETNews, Samsung will deploy its Privacy Display technology only in the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra and Galaxy S27 Pro models, leaving the Samsung Galaxy S27 and its Plus variant with regular screens.

There are also fresh rumours of a super-slim Galaxy S27 Edge model, which presumably will also miss out.

Samsung’s privacy plans

This move is being positioned as a means to differentiate Samsung’s two premium models from the two regular options, which makes a lot of sense.

Of course, with rivals such as Huawei already looking to implement similar technology into a new form factors such as foldables, Samsung can’t afford to be too stingy with its breakthrough features.

Samsung’s Privacy Display works by limiting the angle at which individual OLED pixels project light. In this way, it can effectively block out specific sensitive information from potential shoulder peepers, such as messages and banking app details.

We found the feature to be a worthwhile addition in an otherwise fairly uninspiring Galaxy S26 Ultra package, so it would be good to see the feature spreading to new devices.

Indeed, while the rest of the Galaxy S range will have to wait for Privacy Display, Samsung is allegedly looking to bring it to other areas of its portfolio.

The report states that Samsung is in discussions to bring the technology to its laptop range, which would make working in a busy coffee shop far more appealing.

If you want to experience this Privacy Display at a halfway reasonable price, you’ll want to take note of the fact that the company has just added the current Samsung Galaxy S26 range to its Certified Re-Newed (CRN) programme.

That means you can pick up a refurbished Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ or indeed Galaxy S26 Ultra at a discounted price. The key here is that it’ll come in like-new condition, and with a full two-year warranty.

In related news, Huawei has added similar privacy display technology to its Mate XT 2, a rival to Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold.
