A few of the comments that stood out to us yesterday:
“OK let’s get serious here.
What a lot of us often don’t realize when we look at something like this is the enormous amount of time, engineering, design, and late night haunting representing thousands of hours by dedicated people to develop and refined a complete and functional performance car.
You are not just buying the parts to make cars, you’re buying an entire history of what it took to build the cars.
So…if you are contemplating building your own cars, this is an excellent way to…”31

“I own both a Ghibli and a Daytona and although I really like the Daytona the Ghibli is my go to car for long drives or if I anticipate stop and go traffic. Both cars have beautiful lines. The Ghibli is more reliable and more user friendly. The steering wheel can be adjusted up/down and the seat back is adjustable. No such luck on the Daytona. This car has power steering while the Daytona feels like a truck at slow speed.
The Maserati V8 has tons of low end torque while the V12 Ferrari needs…”19

“Awesome, I am so happy! This will live with several Ford Shelbys in the garage one of which being a ’65 GT350, so I am absolutely going to re-enact that magazine cover!!!! I’ll be driving it home to Pittsburgh and it will hardly be a trailer queen, but will be well taken care of.”

“This is cool. During the 1950s and 1960s, my grandmother worked for Helms Bakery in Montebello, CA. When I was young, I toured the plant and saw her working—baking donuts.
She would bring home the cardboard miniature Helms trucks for me…
Decades later, for her 90th birthday party, I made it a Helms Bakery–themed event and found an original unfolded cardboard Helms Bakery truck on eBay. I reproduced them so each table had a miniature Helms truck.
The family went nuts over those…”21

“The gap between the order date and the serialized date on the Marti report reminds me that Ford workers went on strike in the fall of 1976.
I had factory ordered a new Econoline 150 around the same time as this Bronco and I took delivery in January of 1977. My van was the same Midnight Metallic Blue as this Bronco. A Great color”5

“When I think about my 16 years with Penry, I often think about the adventures we went on. Here’s a little story for you….It was 2016 and I had been hired to do a show in Missoula, MT. The thought of not being able to mountain bike, camp, or play my guitar for a whole summer led me to pack him up and hit the road. I drove straight through to a friend’s house in St Paul. The next day I headed northwest to North Dakota so I could camp for a couple of days at Theodore Roosevelt National Park…”

“Ok, I am digging deep into the Archives on this one. The year is 1992 and this is my high school yearbook. My buddy’s dad had a 1987 black 911 turbo and my friends brother had a 1987 928 S4, the third one is me in my dad’s Porsche at 17 years old dreaming off the future. That picture is 34 years old and 51 year old me has it in my garage still:) This car has brought me happiness for decades and hopefully the next care taker of it will experience the same joy it has brought me and my family.”

Thank you for the shout Randy @BaT – I would’ve missed the listing otherwise. Time travel is fun, eh?
I bought this car in Las Vegas in 2012 after years of hunting for a good one. Even back then, they were quite rare. On the drive home to San Francisco, I took a dirt detour through Titus Canyon in Death Valley, and you can see pics from that in the original auction gallery. “In the mid 80’s I was driving my 1977 Porsche 930 home from O’Hara airport to Elgin, IL on I90 taking the Barrington Road offramp when I happened to look in my rear view mirror to find it completely filled with a Lambo Countach that appeared not have a driver. Then a thick arm came out the window pointing for me to turn right at Barrington Road. Then the Lambo passed me and turned right with the arm coming out again point left to turn on a country road. Seemed pretty evident what the driver…”
