A WOKE council has told staff not to use the word “alcoholic” — for fear it could upset heavy drinkers.
The barmy advice says they should instead say “a person who drinks alcohol problematically”.

And rather than say “asylum seeker”, officials are instructed to say a “person seeking asylum”, which they claim is a “person-first alternative”.
The bizarre diktat at Labour-run Nottingham City Council also says staff should not use the term “sex change” — and must instead say a transgender person has had “gender affirming/confirmation surgery”.
The eight-page Addressing Stigma Language Guide states: “Using person-first language acknowledges that a person is not defined by their condition.
“It is a characteristic that they have, not something that they are.”
Other terms deemed off-limits in the guide, put together by the council’s public health team, are “elderly” and “frail”.
Tory MP Sir Alec Shelbrooke told The Sun: “This is typical of left-wing local politicians, trying to pretend that all their problems can be solved with words.
“Trying to change the language does nothing to hide anything — the public still know it’s happening, and they know that these people are asylum seekers.
“These types of people ought to be trying to fix problems in their areas, rather than messing about with words.”
Earlier this year, the council attracted controversy by cancelling a kids’ snail race over animal cruelty fears.
It did not comment on the language guide.
