LACK of organisation can be very costly.
People who identify as being laid-back are more likely to be hit with late-payment fees and less likely to have saved cash by switching energy bills, according to a study by comparison site uswitch.com.

Here’s how to get it together to make some savings . . .
NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT: More than a third of people, who think of themselves as organised, pay bills as soon as they receive them.
If you can adopt this habit, you’ll quickly eliminate any risk of late-payment fees and any other costs such as added interest.
Where possible, do set up direct debits or automatic payments so you don’t have to remember or keep setting aside time to make repayments.
MAKE A DATE: Staying on top of bills is one of those tasks that is all too easy to put off.
Sabrina Hoque, from Uswitch, said: “Many of us like to think we’ll get around to home admin tomorrow, but small delays can quickly add up.
“Some households are missing opportunities to save money simply because important tasks slip down the to-do list.”
Put aside non-negotiable time to tackle your bills and make sure you are not frittering away cash.
Little and often is better. For example, every Tuesday on your lunchbreak, make it your goal to make one money-saving move, whether that’s switching a key bill or cancelling a subscription you don’t use. You could make it something to look forward to by promising yourself a treat out of any money saved.
LOVE A LIST: Calendar reminders and lists are vital for forgetful types. As soon as you renew a bill or subscription, put in a reminder to shop around or cancel before an auto-renewal takes place. Or keep a running to-do list and add your financial admin to it as soon as possible.
Simply checking items off your list can be surprisingly rewarding and can give you momentum to move on to the next items.
