Understanding chelsea star Jamie Gittens spotted on crutches after suffering injury for England U21s

JAMIE GITTENS will be sent back to Chelsea after limping away in crutches from England’s 4-2 win over Kazakhstan.

The Stamford Bridge winger suffered an ankle injury and was replaced by former club team-mate Tyrique George in the 39th minute at Molineux.

England were leading 2-1 when he was subbed off before the visitors equalised through Saif Popov on 43 minutes.

Boss Lee Carsley confirmed that Gittens will be sent back to Chelsea for tests to avoid further injury.

Gittens will be ruled out of the Young Lions’ final two qualifying games against Slovakia and the Republic of Ireland.

England need a point against Slovakia in Stoke next Friday to book a spot at Euro 2027.

Carsley said: “Jamie got a kick on his ankle. We never take any risks.

“With the age of these players we don’t ever keep them in camp to see how they are. He will go back.”

Gittens was a £48million signing for Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund last year.

However, he has struggled to impress since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

He played just 16 games in the Premier League last season – but only five of those were starts.

Gittens failed to score in the league but did manage one goal and five assists in all competitions.

This season he has failed to make a league appearance and has only played two games in the Carabao Cup under Xabi Alonso.

Gittens is the latest high profile injury worry of the international break for Chelsea amid concerns players are being pushed to their limits.

Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro have already been ruled out of taking part for England and Brazil respectively.

Another Chelsea star in Mike Penders suffered a blow as he was ruled out of Belgium‘s Nations League game against Italy.

And Arsenal star Kai Havertz was forced off just 30 minutes into Germany‘s Nations League clash with the Netherlands on Thursday.

The same game saw Sunderland‘s Brian Brobbey hobbled off injured for the Netherlands.
