Episode 4 gave viewers one of William Macon’s strangest scenes yet. However, Dillahunt revealed that the original sequence included another significant moment.
William had the Green Lantern ring on his desk. He picked it up, put it on, and tried using it.
“I try to manifest and I can’t,” Dillahunt told us.
The moment did not survive the final edit. Still, Dillahunt loved getting his brief opportunity to wear the ring.
“I loved that I got to do that,” he said. “Even for a second, to wear the Green Lantern ring.”
That detail also raises an interesting question about William. Why could he not use it?
Dillahunt believes fear could offer one explanation. William fears an invasion, losing Zoe, and watching his town fall.
“He really thinks he has the recipe to save this country and this world,” Dillahunt said.

William Macon May Be More Dangerous Than He Looks
Dillahunt does not view William as a simple villain.
Instead, he sees a man whose absolute commitment makes him dangerous. William believes he protects Earth against forces humanity cannot control.
“He’s willing to sacrifice everything for what he believes in,” Dillahunt explained.
That dedication also extends to Zoe. Dillahunt believes William genuinely loves her and feels deeply indebted to her.
“He owes her too much, and he loves her too much,” he said.
William also sees Jon Stewart as a threat. Jon is younger, stronger, and increasingly important to Zoe.
That combination creates an uncomfortable tension between both men.
A Comic Book Fan Finally Gets His DC Moment
Dillahunt’s excitement about joining Lanterns goes far beyond another acting role.
He told us he has roughly 15 boxes of comic books sitting in his closet. His collection includes X Men, Avengers, and classic Green Lantern stories.
Joining the HBO series gave that longtime fandom a professional payoff.
“It’s a bit of a dream come true,” Dillahunt said.
He also compared Lanterns to an eight issue comic series from a talented creative team.
The style may differ from previous Green Lantern stories. However, Dillahunt believes that creative freedom remains part of the comic book experience.

Dillahunt also offered significant praise for Aaron Pierre’s portrayal of Jon Stewart.
He believes Pierre fits a character who carries enormous importance for many comic book fans.
“Jon Stewart was waiting for Aaron Pierre to show up,” Dillahunt said.
His praise became even stronger when discussing Pierre’s potential.
“He’s a shooting star,” Dillahunt said. “He’s a comet.”
Dillahunt also praised Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan. He described the chemistry between Chandler and Pierre as “off the charts.”
That chemistry helped convince Dillahunt that Lanterns had found something special.

What About Those Black Hand Theories?
William Macon’s identity continues generating plenty of speculation.
Dillahunt has seen the theories. The Green Arrow idea disappeared quickly, but another theory continues following his character.

“I’m just not gonna answer anything,” he said. “I’m not gonna spoil anything for anybody.”
As comic book fans ourselves, we respect that answer.

Garret Dillahunt Says Lanterns Is a Pressure Cooker
Dillahunt has already seen the first seven episodes of Lanterns. However, the production kept the finale away from him and other cast members.
That secrecy should make fans even more curious about where this story goes.
Dillahunt also offered one intriguing warning about the episodes ahead.
“Five is huge,” he said.
He described the entire series as a pressure cooker with the pressure steadily building.
“The lid’s rattling,” Dillahunt said.
Between William’s secrets, Zoe’s importance, and Jon Stewart’s growing role, that pressure has plenty of places to explode.
Garret Dillahunt may not reveal William Macon’s ultimate fate yet. However, he clearly understands why fans cannot stop trying to solve him.
For now, William remains one of Lanterns‘ biggest mysteries.
