Governor pushes energy efficiency plan to position Prachuap Khiri Khan as green tourism city
The governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan has accelerated plans to improve energy efficiency as part of efforts to position the province as a model environmentally friendly tourism city.
Mr Sitthichai Sawat Saen, Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, chaired a meeting on 2 March 2026 at Ballroom 2 of the Amari Hua Hin Hotel to discuss policies under the “Smart and Sustainable Industry” initiative. The discussions focused on improving energy efficiency, expanding the use of renewable energy and reducing environmental impacts.
The meeting brought together Mr Sorasak Thayai, the provincial energy officer, along with representatives from government agencies, civil society organisations, the private sector and local businesses.
Officials used the session to outline measures aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while gathering suggestions to help develop a pilot action plan that could guide Prachuap Khiri Khan towards becoming a “Green City”.
Province looks to reduce carbon emissions
The governor said the initiative also aims to raise awareness about reducing energy consumption and strengthening the province’s role as a sustainable tourism destination.
As part of the programme, the province plans to introduce AI-enabled electrical transformers at the Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Hall. The technology will help manage electricity systems more efficiently, stabilise voltage and extend the lifespan of electrical equipment.
Provincial officials said the Provincial Hall will become the first government office in Thailand to use the technology. If successful, the system may later be expanded to government offices, hospitals and businesses across the province.
The initiative forms part of the provincial development strategy, “Next Move Prachuap – Prachuap Must Move Forward”, which aims to strengthen renewable energy production, improve energy and natural resource management and support sustainable development.
