Prachuap screens royal-pattern Thai textiles for 2026
Prachuap Khiri Khan has begun screening entries for a provincial Thai textiles and handicrafts competition aimed at preserving traditional skills while supporting local producers.
Deputy Governor Apinya Iam-ampha presided over the opening of the provincial judging committee meeting on 4 August at Prachuap Grand Hotel in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Kulnis Sriwachirawat, Chief of the Prachuap Khiri Khan Community Development Office, joined members of the committee responsible for reviewing entries in the 2026 competition.
The contest includes fabrics featuring the royal patterns “Khor Somdet–Chao Fa” and “Buppha Borommarachininat”, along with handicraft entries.
A total of 33 royal-pattern fabric pieces from 21 producer groups have been submitted for consideration.
The committee will assess the entries and select those considered to meet the required standards to advance to the next stage of the competition.
Supporting Thai textiles and local producers
Provincial officials said the competition is intended to promote and develop Thai textiles while encouraging designs and products that can appeal to a wider range of consumers and be used on different occasions.
It also aims to raise awareness of Thai fabrics, preserve traditional textile knowledge and recognise the cultural value of weaving and related handicraft skills.
Organisers said the initiative is also designed to support textile producers and entrepreneurs in Prachuap Khiri Khan by encouraging improvements in product quality and helping them develop products with a stronger local identity.
Officials hope this will help producers create additional income for their communities while ensuring traditional Thai textile skills continue to be passed on and promoted.
