Fresh footage of Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba K…

A previously recorded video of Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has surfaced, offering a rare glimpse of the country’s new leader as speculation continues over his health.

The footage, released by Iranian media, shows Khamenei attending an academic session and reviewing a student’s research paper on the “Islamic security model.” He is heard speaking publicly in the video for what is described as the first time since assuming the leadership, and he praises the research as flawless.

The release comes amid unverified reports that Khamenei was seriously injured during military strikes that resulted in the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian state media has sought to counter the reports by broadcasting the footage, although the exact date when it was recorded remains unclear.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has also rejected claims about the supreme leader’s deteriorating health, describing him as “absolutely healthy.”

Since taking office, the 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei has largely stayed away from public appearances, communicating mainly through written statements and official channels. His limited visibility has continued to fuel questions about his health and whereabouts.

Maira Khan’s bold social media transformation sparks debate

Maira Khan is a familiar name in the Pakistani television industry, having appeared in several popular dramas throughout her acting career. She has been part of projects such as Riwaaj, Kisey Awaaz Doon, Cousins, Jalan, Cheekh, and Bewafa, among others. Her performances helped her establish a presence in the entertainment industry, while her appearance on ARY Digital’s reality show Tamasha recently brought her renewed attention from viewers. Apart from television, Maira Khan has also worked in the feature film Durj, a project that received critical appreciation. Over the years, she has remained a subject of public interest, particularly because of her changing appearance, fashion choices, and occasional discussions surrounding cosmetic procedures and her evolving personal style. In recent years, however, Maira has largely stepped away from the Pakistani drama scene. Instead of appearing regularly on television, she is now frequently seen travelling with friends and sharing glimpses of her lifestyle on social media. Her Instagram presence has also become more noticeable, with the former actress posting photographs and reels showcasing her fashion choices and travels. Her recent posts have attracted particular attention because of her preference for Western-style outfits and a more confident approach to fashion. Some of her latest pictures feature outfits that are considerably bolder than the image audiences may remember from her television career. Her transformation has sparked a wide range of reactions across social media, with some people praising her confidence while others have criticised her new appearance. Several social media users have speculated about the reason behind her change in lifestyle and fashion. Some suggested that her reduced presence in Pakistani television dramas may have influenced her decision to pursue a different lifestyle, while others argued that her clothing choices are simply a matter of personal preference. The discussion also took an unexpected turn, with some users questioning her religious identity and making assumptions about her beliefs based on her appearance. Such comments generated further debate, as many people pointed out that a person’s faith cannot be determined simply by their clothing or social media posts. Some critics expressed disappointment over what they described as a shift from her earlier, more modest public image. One commenter said that Pakistani actresses appear to be becoming increasingly bold and prayed for them to receive guidance. Another user wrote that Maira had appeared much more decent in the past. Others shared reminders about morality and the temporary nature of worldly life. At the same time, her supporters believe that Maira has the right to make her own choices regarding fashion, lifestyle, and social media presence. The contrasting reactions demonstrate how strongly Pakistani celebrities continue to be scrutinised for their personal choices, particularly when they adopt a style that differs from their earlier public image.

UK heatwave breaks 1995 record as fifth heatwave h…

London: Britain is facing another spell of intense summer heat, with the country’s fifth heatwave of the year pushing the number of days above 30°C beyond a record set more than three decades ago. According to media reports, temperatures have exceeded 30°C across several parts of the UK, adding to growing concerns over the health and environmental impact of prolonged hot weather. The UK has now recorded 35 days with temperatures above 30°C this year, surpassing the 1995 total of 34 such days. The development highlights the unusual persistence of hot weather this summer. The Met Office is forecasting further rises in temperatures, with East Anglia and southeast England expected to experience particularly hot conditions on Thursday. Temperatures in some areas could climb to around 36°C. The prolonged heat has also prompted health authorities to issue warnings. The UK Health Security Agency has placed heat-health alerts across several regions, including London, the East Midlands, West Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, urging people to take precautions during the hottest periods. The heat is not the only concern. Britain is also dealing with increasingly dry conditions, putting additional pressure on water supplies, agriculture and natural habitats. Government assessments have previously warned that repeated heatwaves and low rainfall are increasing drought risks, while wildfires have affected several parts of the country. Dry grass, parched fields and shrinking water resources have become visible signs of the changing conditions. Authorities are urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary exposure to extreme heat and remain cautious in areas vulnerable to fires. With another hot spell approaching, attention is now focused on how long the latest heatwave will last — and whether Britain is heading toward another summer of unprecedented weather extremes.

US forces to leave Iraqi Kurdistan by September 30

BAGHDAD: The Iraqi government has announced that US forces will complete their withdrawal from Iraq’s Kurdistan region by September 30, marking another step in the planned transition of the American military mission in the country. According to foreign media reports, Iraqi and US officials held discussions in the Kurdistan region regarding the withdrawal and the transfer of military responsibilities. Under the plan, US military bases in Kurdistan will be handed over to Iraqi security forces following the departure of American personnel. The Iraqi government said the movement of US military equipment and personnel out of the region is already underway. The withdrawal is expected to take place in coordination with Iraqi authorities to ensure an orderly transition. The announcement comes as Baghdad and Washington continue implementing an agreement reached in 2024 on the gradual transition of the US-led military mission in Iraq. The agreement envisaged a phased reduction of the international coalition’s military role while strengthening Iraq’s own security capabilities. US forces have played a significant role in supporting Iraqi forces in the fight against Islamic State militants and in providing training, intelligence and logistical assistance. The latest withdrawal from Kurdistan is therefore likely to attract attention as Iraq assumes greater responsibility for securing military facilities previously used by US forces. The Iraqi government has not provided further details on the exact number of American troops or equipment involved in the latest phase of the withdrawal.

Pakistan crushed by England, slide to WTC bottom

LEEDS: Pakistan’s World Test Championship campaign suffered another setback on Friday as they slipped to the bottom of the WTC 2025-27 standings after England completed a crushing innings victory in the first Test at Headingley. The defeat leaves Pakistan with just two wins from seven matches and a points percentage of 19.05, increasing the pressure on the team ahead of the remaining two Tests of the three-match series. England, meanwhile, remain seventh in the standings with a points percentage of 29.76, having won five of their 14 matches. Australia continue to dominate the WTC table. They sit top with seven wins from nine Tests, collecting 84 points at a winning percentage of 77.78. Defending champions South Africa are second with three wins from four matches and a 75% percentage. New Zealand occupy third place, followed by Bangladesh and India. Pakistan’s latest defeat exposed familiar problems with both their batting and ability to handle England’s pace attack. After being asked to bat, Pakistan were dismissed for just 171 in their first innings. England’s bowlers Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue were particularly effective, claiming five wickets each. England then turned their advantage into a commanding position, piling up 409 runs in their first innings. Jordan Cox, Joe Root, Harry Brook and Dan Lawrence all contributed half-centuries, while Pakistan spinner Ali Usman fought back with an impressive five-wicket haul. Pakistan entered their second innings facing a massive 238-run deficit and needed a determined batting effort to save the match. Instead, their resistance lasted only 37.3 overs. Pakistan were bowled out for 135, handing England a comprehensive innings victory and leaving their opponents with a 1-0 lead in the series. Robinson was the standout performer. His eight wickets across the match earned him the Player of the Match award and helped England secure a dominant start to the series. Pakistan had entered the England tour after drawing their two-Test series against the West Indies 1-1, but their Headingley collapse has put their WTC campaign under renewed pressure. With two Tests still remaining, Pakistan will need a dramatic turnaround in batting consistency and bowling execution to keep their hopes of climbing the championship table alive.

Israeli forces arrest 14 Palestinians in West Bank…

RAMALLAH: Israeli forces detained at least 14 Palestinians, including a woman, during a series of military raids across the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, while three homes were also demolished, according to local sources. The latest arrests come as tensions continue to rise across the occupied territory, where Israeli military operations, arrests and settler violence have intensified in recent days. The raids targeted several locations, including Nablus, Jenin and Tulkarm, according to reports. Eight detained in Nablus In Nablus, Israeli forces entered the Ras al-Ain neighbourhood and stormed three buildings. Soldiers searched several homes before detaining eight Palestinians, including a woman, local sources said. The operation reportedly involved searches of residential properties, with residents subjected to questioning before the detainees were taken away. The raid was part of a wider military campaign across the northern West Bank, where Israeli forces have repeatedly carried out overnight and early-morning operations. Raids reported in Tubas and Jenin In Tubas province, Israeli troops entered the town of Tammun and remained there for several hours before withdrawing. No arrests were reported from the operation. Meanwhile, in the Jenin area, Israeli forces entered Al-Yamoun, where they arrested a former Palestinian prisoner from Jenin city. Another Palestinian was detained in Deir Ghazaleh, located northeast of Jenin, according to local sources. The arrests added to growing concerns over the continuing military pressure on Palestinian communities in the occupied West Bank. More arrests in Tulkarm Further arrests were reported in the Tulkarm area. Israeli forces detained a Palestinian customs police officer and a young man from Irtah, a suburb south of Tulkarm. Two other Palestinians were also arrested following raids and searches of homes in the village of Far’un. The latest operations come against a backdrop of escalating violence in the West Bank. Reuters reported this week that Palestinian residents have described mounting pressure from military raids and settler attacks, warning that the situation is approaching a breaking point. At the same time, reports of demolitions have added another layer to the tensions. Anadolu Agency reported that three Palestinian homes were demolished during the wider military campaign, with Israeli authorities citing claims related to construction permits. The developments are likely to fuel further concern over the security and humanitarian situation in the occupied West Bank, where repeated raids, arrests, demolitions and clashes have continued to affect Palestinian communities.

Kaia Gerber reveals she underwent an exorcism as a child

Model and actress Kaia Gerber has made a startling revelation about her childhood, saying she underwent an unusual exorcism after her mother, supermodel Cindy Crawford, feared she might be possessed. The 24-year-old opened up about the experience during an interview on The Mitch Churi Chat Show, where she was promoting Ryan Murphy’s upcoming series The Shards. Gerber also spoke about her long-standing fascination with supernatural experiences and encounters. Gerber said she had been told as a child that she was possessed and described herself as having been “haunted” throughout her life. She then revealed that an exorcism had actually been performed on her. According to the actress, the ritual involved a didgeridoo being played around her. “I’ve never talked about it, but that actually did happen,” Gerber said while recalling the unusual childhood experience. Her comments also brought attention to her connection with supernatural themes. During her appearance in American Horror Story: Double Feature, Crawford reportedly took precautions because of concerns about the show’s subject matter. Gerber said her mother gave her holy water during the production because she worried that her daughter could become possessed. The revelation comes as Gerber has also been speaking more openly about the pressures she has faced growing up as the daughter of one of the world’s most recognisable models. In a recent interview, she discussed the constant comparisons between herself and Crawford, particularly regarding their physical appearances. Gerber said such comparisons affected how she viewed her own body and admitted that she had sometimes felt jealous of her mother’s figure. The actress explained that comments about her appearance have been difficult because people often expect her to discuss her body publicly. Gerber has also attracted attention for her relationship with actor Lewis Pullman. The couple reportedly began dating in early 2025 after her relationship with Austin Butler ended. More recently, Gerber described her relationship with Pullman in highly positive terms, saying she values being able to remain herself rather than changing her personality depending on whether she is with a partner, friends or colleagues.
