Monsoon rain continue in more parts of Luzon due to enhanced southwest monsoon

MANILA, Philippines – More provinces in Luzon are experiencing monsoon rain on Friday afternoon, August 28, due to the southwest monsoon or habagat, which is being enhanced by the low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The LPA was last located 560 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is also monitoring another LPA outside PAR, which was located 1,460 km east of Central Luzon.

Both LPAs have a “medium” chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, after which they will be called the local names Pilandok and Queenie.

PAGASA said in its 4 pm bulletin that the enhanced southwest monsoon is bringing monsoon rain to Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, and Occidental Mindoro.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Oriental Mindoro are experiencing occasional rain, while the Visayas and the rest of Luzon are seeing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

Friday afternoon, August 28, to Saturday afternoon, August 29:

• Heavy to intense rain (100-200 millimeters): Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, and Occidental Mindoro
• Moderate to heavy rain (50-100 mm): Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Oriental Mindoro

Saturday afternoon, August 29, to Sunday afternoon, August 30:

• Heavy to intense rain (100-200 mm): Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Zambales, and Bataan
• Moderate to heavy rain (50-100 mm): Ilocos Norte, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Nueva Vizcaya, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro

Sunday afternoon, August 30, to Monday afternoon, August 31:

• Heavy to intense rain (100-200 mm): Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, and Zambales
• Moderate to heavy rain (50-100 mm): Batanes, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Nueva Vizcaya, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro
