Ahsoka Season 2 Trailer Officially Reveals Exciting First Footage From Star Wars’ Next TV Show
It’s been a long wait for Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2. The fan-favorite character finally got an opportunity to headline a live-action project when the first season of her eponymous TV series debuted back in 2023. The finale featured multiple cliffhangers, including Baylan Skoll coming across statues of the Mortis gods, Ahsoka and Sabine attempting to make a new life for themselves on Peridea, and Grand Admiral Thrawn returning to the main Star Wars galaxy to wage war against the New Republic. Since that episode premiered, fans have been eager to see the story continue, but Ahsoka Season 2 won’t arrive until early 2027. In the meantime, we now have our first footage to check out.
During this year’s D23 Expo, Lucasfilm unveiled the first trailer for Ahsoka Season 2. Watch it in the space below:
Ahsoka Season 2 Trailer Sets the Stage for an Epic Galactic Conflict
The live-action Star Wars TV shows have always attempted to emulate the look and feel of the movies, but even by that high standard, Ahsoka Season 2 boasts a very impressive scale and scope. This trailer establishes a rather ominous tone for the forthcoming season, teasing epic conflicts taking place in two different galaxies. It appears Ahsoka Season 2 will feature dual storylines; one is set in the mainline Star Wars galaxy, where Grand Admiral Thrawn has declared war on the New Republic. The other is on the distant planet Peridea, where Ahsoka and Sabine will face a new set of challenges. It will be interesting to see how these storylines dovetail as the season goes on. At one point in the trailer, Ahsoka mentions having visions of war, so it’s possible she and Sabine look for a way to get back to their allies.
Ahsoka star Eman Esfandi previously stated that showrunner Dave Filoni “went nuts” when crafting the latest batch of episodes, promising “a lot of action … fights, battles, explosions, lightsabers, lasers.” It’s clear from the Season 2 footage those comments were not hyperbole. If the trailer is anything to go by, Ahsoka Season 2 is going to feature plenty of jaw-dropping spectacle that would be right at home on the big screen. The space battles could rank among the most exciting in the franchise, plus it’ll be great to see more lightsaber duels. But Ahsoka Season 2 shouldn’t just be all style; there will be some substance thanks to Ahsoka’s dynamic with Anakin Skywalker. We’re going to get more flashbacks to Ahsoka’s youth in the Clone Wars, and Anakin’s Force ghost will be around to provide the older Ahsoka with some words of wisdom. Hayden Christensen’s return in Season 1 was a definite highlight, and it looks like he’ll be a scene stealer again in Season 2.
Ahsoka Season 2 is arriving at a fascinating time for the Star Wars franchise. After Disney and Lucasfilm arguably oversaturated the marketplace with new streaming shows during the first half of the decade, they’re now scaling back. Ahsoka Season 2 is the only new live-action Star Wars series on the schedule. There hasn’t even been anything else officially announced. Lucasfilm has made a point to highlight its upcoming film slate; in addition to next year’s Star Wars: Starfighter, they teased multiple movies at Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025. But live-action TV doesn’t appear to be a priority anymore.
With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see how Ahsoka Season 2 unfolds and what the future has in store. There’s a chance Filoni and Co. look to wrap up the Thrawn storyline here, effectively closing the book on the New Republic era (where many of Lucasfilm’s Disney+ projects are set). A third season could always happen, but if Disney is pulling the plug on Emmy-nominated series and scrapping a Power Rangers reboot over budget concerns, they may not be willing to green light another season of Ahsoka. Four years separate the two seasons, which is a long time. The forward momentum established by Season 1 came to a halt a while ago, and a case can be made Lucasfilm needs to finish this New Republic conflict sooner rather than later before turning the page. If this storyline keeps lingering for several more years, audiences could lose interest.
