Bad weather forces Senate to postpone Sara Duterte impeachment trial

MANILA, Philippines – Bad weather conditions due to southwest monsoon or habagat forced the Senate to postpone the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte and the chamber’s regular session on Monday, August 10.

The trial and plenary session will resume on Tuesday, August 11, Senate Secretary and clerk of court Renato Bantug Jr. said in an advisory released on Monday morning, August 10.

Malacañang also suspended all face-to-face classes in public and private schools and ordered government offices in Metro Manila and several other provinces to shift to work-from-home arrangements on Monday.

Citing this order from the Palace, Senate President Win Gatchalian allowed all Senate officials and employees to work from home on Monday.

Monday’s proceedings were supposed to mark the 14th day of Duterte’s impeachment trial. The House prosecution panel was set to continue presenting its case on the alleged misuse of confidential funds, with Commission on Audit’s Intelligence and Confidential Funds Audit Office supervising auditor Xylene del Campo as a witness. – Rappler.com
