Cancelled Shonen Jump Creator Returns With a New Series Ahead of Anime’s Debut
It’s no secret among manga fans that Shonen Jump often cancels series for varying reasons. It doesn’t have much to do with the story; rather, sales or viewership matter most to publishers. In February 2024, Shun Numa returned to Weekly Shonen Jump with a new gag humor series, Super Psychic Policeman Chojo. The manga released 69 chapters before reaching an anticlimactic ending only a year after its debut. However, the series surprised Shonen Jump fans with an anime adaptation only a few months after its cancellation. While it’s not Numa’s first serialized manga, it’s the only one that has confirmed an anime adaptation.
Despite the promising story and premise, the series never got the chance it deserved, but the anime adaptation might change that. The manga has been gaining a lot of recognition since its cancellation, which is why it ranked third in the Next Manga Award. The anime series will premiere on October 6th as part of the 2026 fall lineup. As the anime’s release date is closer than ever, Shun Numa will be starting a brand new series in collaboration with another creator.
What to Know About The New Weekly Shonen Jump Manga By Shun Numa

Numa is working with Yushin Kuroki, whose only serialized manga is Teenage Renaissance! David. While the official English title hasn’t been revealed yet, it’s translated to Behind the Scenes Report by @WSJ_manga on X. The account also shared that the manga will debut in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #40. We can expect the manga to land on the official Manga Plus app on August 23rd, 2026. This is Numa’s first manga after the cancellation of Super Psychic Policeman Chojo.
Not only that, but it’s also the first time he is collaborating with another artist for a weekly serialization. It’s currently unknown if Numa will be focusing on the story or the art, and considering his previous track record, it could be either of those. Additionally, Kuroki is an even more underrated WSJ creator, whose only serialized manga began in September 2018. It was cancelled only a few months later in 2019, and this will be his first project after all these years.
What Is Super Psychic Policeman Chojo About?

The story takes place in a world where talented psychics use their powers to solve crimes. They are known as Police Investigators and have incredible abilities like telepathy and psychometry. However, since only the most talented psychics can join the FBI or CIA, most of them end up joining the police force due to their average powers. Meguru Chojo is one such police officer working in a small police station in West Shinjuku.
The story centers around his daily shenanigans with his partner, Nao Ippongi, as they continue to solve every crime that they stumble upon. All chapters of the manga are available on the official Manga Plus app. You can also read the manga online on Viz Media, where links to buying the manga volumes are also available.
