Community Stars Share Hopes for New Movie Return (Exclusive)

A Community movie has been in various levels of production for many years now, and two of the stars behind the series have shared their own hopes of a potential comeback to fully fulfill its prophecy. Community remains one of the most beloved TV comedies of all time, and that is still true even after such a bumpy road getting to its final season. But one of the jokes among fans is the fact that Community once noted it wanted “six seasons and a movie.” With six seasons down, fans still want that movie.

Word of a Community movie has been flying around ever since the original series ended its run back in 2015, and has been in various stages of development as fans wonder if it’s still going to happen. Speaking to ComicBook for the upcoming premiere of President Curtis, stars Keith David and Jim Rash (who also star in the new Rick and Morty spinoff series) revealed that they’re also hoping the movie comes out someday and even are trying to manifest it.

“In what world would I say no to that question?” Keith David joked when asked about potentially returning for a Community movie. “Hey, I have a job offer for you. Do you want to do it? Can I think about that for a second? Yeah!” It was the same for Jim Rash, who noted that this is something that he’s always been asked about by long time fans of the series, “Do you want to help make the prophecy of six seasons and a movie come true? You get asked to this day on the street, so I’m with everyone who asks me! Please, please, please…We’re putting it out in the universe.”

Naturally both stars are excited about the prospect of returning to Community for a potential movie, and that’s always possible considering how many revivals of classic franchise that we’ve gotten to see over the last few years as well. Though Keith David only fully joined the cast in the series’ divisive sixth season, it’s clear that both actors would jump at the chance to return just for the job prospect alone. But thankfully, the two of them don’t have to worry too much about employment with upcoming releases like President Curtis coming to Adult Swim later this weekend.

Is a Community Movie Ever Going to Happen?

Community: The Movie has been in development for quite some time, but apparently came close to actually shooting back in 2023. Community writer Andrew Guest explained that the film came close to shooting following the end of the Writers Guild of America strike in 2023, but one actor’s schedule unfortunately led to conflicts that kept it from happening. It seems that the stars have yet to align since then, but its stars are hoping to see it all come to fruition soon enough.

All of this development for the feature film would not even matter if Community fans weren’t asking for it, and Rash confirmed that it’s still very much the case that there’s a strong desire from fans at large to see the new movie in action. With no potential release yet to be revealed as of this time, we’ll just have to wait and see.
