DILG seeks P332 billion for 2027, with PNP getting biggest share
MANILA, Philippines – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is asking for P332.5 billion for its 2027 budget, with the lion’s share going to the Philippine National Police (PNP) at P242 billion, according to the National Expenditure Program (NEP).
In 2026, the DILG received a budget of P308.2 billion, with the PNP getting the largest share at P225.8 billion, followed by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) at P36.2 billion and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at P31.3 billion.
In April, the DILG and the PNP drew heavy public criticism over the implementation of the Safer Cities Initiative in Metro Manila, which later became a nationwide policy that resulted in the arrest of minors and residents, primarily those from impoverished communities.
Human rights groups called the implementation of the initiative “anti-poor” and a misuse of taxpayers’ money.
For the upcoming fiscal year, the DILG is looking to increase the PNP’s appropriation by at least P15 billion, with the majority going toward its Crime Prevention and Suppression Program.

Under the Office of the Secretary, the department is seeking P10 million for its Bantay Korapsyon (BK) Program, the DILG’s flagship anti-corruption initiative since 2018.
The department, through its Local Government Academy, is also looking to appropriate P76 million to conduct training programs for local governments on climate change adaptation and disaster risk management frameworks.
Some of the agencies under the DILG are expecting reductions in their appropriations for 2027.
NAPOLCOM, the agency responsible for monitoring and investigating police anomalies and irregularities, had its proposed 2027 new general appropriation drop from P2,465,656,000 in 2026 down to P2,315,855,000 — a P149.8-million decrease.
The NCMF, which advises the President on policies and issues concerning Muslim Filipinos, also faces a decrease from its 2026 budget of P1,313,603,000 to P1,177,539,000 — a P136.06-million drop.
The ECCDC, the key governing body on the development of policies, coordination, and implementation of early childhood care and development programs in the Philippines, faces the highest decrease in the DILG’s proposed 2027 budget.
From its 2026 appropriation of P356,793,000, the ECCDC is expecting to get P123,846,000 for 2027 — a P232.94-million reduction or a -65.3% change from its previous year.
