BFP bet from Que clan secures Tawi-Tawi 1st District seat in BARMM Parliament

MANILA, Philippines – A former vice mayor of Bongao town in Tawi-Tawi, Julbert Que, is now the province’s Member of Parliament-elect for the 1st District.

He will join his two brothers, current Bongao mayor Jasper and vice mayor Jimuel, in government service.

This comes after the conclusion of the first-ever Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections on Monday, September 14.

Que obtained 54,496 or 95.3% of his district’s votes, according to Tawi-Tawi’s total certificates of canvass on the Commission on Elections’ website. This means he has secured one seat for his political party, the Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP).

He edged out Shirmal Hajim Sabal, the bet of the BFP’s rival party, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s United Bangsamoro Justice Party.

Sabal, an educator and former provincial director of the BARMM Ministry of Science and Technology, got 2,687 or 4.7% of the votes.

Like other newly elected parliament members, Que will serve a special five-year transition term from October 30, 2026, to June 30, 2031. He will be one of the 32 district representatives making up 40% of the 80-seat Bangsamoro Parliament. – Rappler.com
