Barcelona vs Racing Santander: La Liga 2026/27 Match Preview

Barcelona vs Racing Santander takes place on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, at Spotify Camp Nou, with kick-off at 21:30 CEST (19:30 UTC). The La Liga Matchday 6 fixture brings together Barcelona, who have won their first five league matches, and Racing, back in Spain’s top division after 14 years.

Barcelona have scored 21 goals in five league games, while Racing have collected seven points from their opening five fixtures. For the wider competition picture, see SportPesa Global’s La Liga 2026/27 season guide.

Barcelona reached this fixture with five league wins from five. Their latest La Liga result was a 4–2 victory away to Levante on 13 September, with Lamine Yamal scoring twice. The club also beat Feyenoord 5–1 in its Champions League opener on 9 September.

Racing returned to La Liga after a 14-year absence and have taken seven points from five matches. They beat Deportivo Alavés 2–1 at El Sardinero on 12 September, with Yassir Zabiri scoring both goals. The win followed a 3–2 defeat away to Rayo Vallecano. Racing’s seven points before the Barcelona match have all come at home.

Barcelona completed their final training session on 15 September with the available first-team players. Barça Atlètic players Hamza Abdelkarim and Jesse Bisiwu also trained with the group. Participation in training does not confirm a place in the matchday squad or starting XI.

Racing coach José Alberto confirmed three absences: Andrés and Eriksson are injured, while Almeida is suspended after his dismissal against Alavés. Racing’s official team update did not identify any further confirmed absences for this match.

The clubs last met in the Copa del Rey round of 16 on 15 January 2026. Barcelona won 2–0 away at El Sardinero, with Ferran Torres scoring in the 66th minute and Lamine Yamal adding a second in stoppage time. That was a knockout tie; their September meeting is a league fixture following Racing’s promotion.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said his focus was on winning the next match rather than setting a record for consecutive victories. He highlighted Racing’s ability to attack space and compete for second balls.

Racing coach José Alberto said he wanted his players to be brave and recognisable in their approach, while acknowledging that his team would face difficult periods. He also distinguished this league visit from January’s one-off cup tie.
