Fitbit Charge 7 may launch soon, as Fitbit Edge
All signs point to Google soon releasing a new Fitbit wearable with a screen. The latest leak spills the beans on what’s coming. Is the Fitbit Charge 7 actually the Fitbit Edge?
If we scroll back briefly, Google launched the Fitbit Air earlier this year as a screenless fitness tracker. It was the first new Fitbit in years, after it seemed as though the brand was going to disappear into the depths.
It gave fans the hope of a replacement for devices such as the Fitbit Charge 6 – still on sale but old and stale. After the Pixel 11 launch in August, a mystery device showed up in adverts in Australia (below).

It was feasible that it was some kind of mistake, but the more likely option was that we’d accidentally glimpsed an unannounced device. With its similarity to the Charge 6, and more of a modern Pixel Watch style, the general consensus was that this must be the long-awaited Fitbit Charge 7, which had then quite possibly passed through certification.
Now, Android Authority has managed to obtain images and information about the device.
Introducing the Fitbit Edge
As expected, it looks like Google will position the Fitbit Edge between the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5. It’s as if the two devices merged to form a new wearable.
We’ll have to wait for Google to explain the branding, though. The word ‘edge’ in tech over the years has meant a thin device, or some kind of curved edge display. Perhaps the firm means it will give you the edge in your fitness and training.
The Fitbit Air certainly looks like an updated Charge 6, with an oval screen and straps that seem to match some of the Pixel 11 phones. Final names are TBC but there are black, green and orange options, with the last two possibly called Olive and Canyon.

These will be paired with different case colours too: possibly Matte Black, Champagne Gold and Satin Pyrite, to match the Pixel Watch 5.
It reportedly features GPS, Bluetooth, an altimeter and a button on one side. We’d expect it to have a heart rate sensor (we can see a live reading on the screen in the images), NFC and other sensors to measure things such as blood oxygen and skin temperature.
Importantly, the Fitbit Edge will not run on Wear OS like the Pixel Watch 5. This means you won’t get more advanced features like Gemini Intelligence, but it ensures longer battery life of up to 7 days, like the Fitbit Air.
This also means it will be compatible with Android as well as iOS. You’ll get apps such as Google Maps, Find my Phone and YouTube Music.
Fitbit Edge price and release date
It looks, unsurprisingly, as though the Fitbit Edge will sit between the Air and Pixel Watch 5.

Android Headlines
The report estimates a price between $149 and $199. This seems about right considering the Charge 6 is £139/$159. We wouldn’t be surprised if Google went for the upper end of this range, considering the rising prices of tech this year.
It also seems we won’t have long to wait for Google to launch the Fitbit Edge as the report says it will arrive this month. It’s likely to get a release/on sale date shortly after, in time for the holiday season.
As soon as the device is official, we’ll bring you all the final details.
