Android 17’s next update could finally fix your buggy Pixel

After what can only be described as a rocky first few months for Android 17, Google’s upcoming QPR3 update could be about to right a lot of wrongs. With its second beta rolling out now, your Pixel phone could soon become much more stable.

In the last few months since Android 17 hit the scene alongside the latest Pixel 11 range of smartphones, users of Google’s operating system have had to deal with a plethora of bugs. These include missed incoming calls, popping sounds emanating from a phone’s speakers and, in some horrible instances, phones being bricked and subject to a massive repair fee in order to restore functionality.

It’s been a bit of a PR disaster for Google, but the brand is making moves to fix a lot of these problems, and the notes for Android 17 QPR3 Beta 2 (courtesy of 9to5 Google) showcase a whole list of bugs that have now been dealt with — 21 in total.

Arguably the most consistent theme is across network and cellular connectivity, which has been vastly improved. Among the issues that have been fixed are unexpected shutdowns during WhatsApp video calls and repeated failures to connect to the Dish Network in the US.

One of the most widely-reported issues is phones simply crashing and being forced to reboot during everyday use, which this new update also supposedly solves.

Other quality-of-life tweaks include stopping a bug that would occur when users had multiple in-progress notifications featured on their lock screen, effectively causing an overlap with the UI and general stuttering.

There are many more bugs that Google claims to have fixed, and our hope is that within the next few weeks, Android 17 is in a far more stable position than we’ve seen so far.

It’s particularly not a good look when Apple’s latest software, iOS 27, has had a largely smooth launch, showing off what it can do on the latest iPhone 18 Pro.

The vast array of Android phones makes this almost impossible for Google to match, but a solid Pixel experience should be a non-negotiable. If Google is serious about tempting consumers away from Apple’s ecosystem, then it needs to get these software issues under lock.
