One UI 9 brings major upgrades to every Samsung Galaxy flagship since 2023
Samsung has officially begun rolling out its Android 17 skin to a bunch of older Galaxy devices.
The One UI 9 rollout has been a somewhat laboured affair from Samsung, with various delays and hold-ups. Now, however, the process seems to be in full swing.
The latest phones to receive One UI 9 include the full Galaxy S23 and S24 series, plus the Z Fold 5/Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 6/Z Flip 6 lineups. It means that basically every flagship Galaxy phone launched since the start of 2023 will now be getting Samsung’s latest major software update.
The rollout appears to be staggered, with SamMobile reporting that Samsung’s native South Korea appears to be first in line. Countries in North America, Europe (including the UK) and India are usually among the early adopters, so if you live in one of these regions, you shouldn’t have to wait much longer.
A worthwhile upgrade
A lot of attention is on the upcoming Galaxy S27 series right now, but your older Galaxy could feel like a whole new phone once you update to One UI 9.
One UI 9 brings with it a more customisable Quick Panel, improvements to Samsung DeX and Samsung Notes, a location privacy indicator, and a bunch of AI enhancements. Call Brief stands out for its ability to outline the nature of calls while they’re happening, so it could be very useful.

Android 17 woes
We first saw One UI 9 at the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 back in July. It’s taken a while to percolate through the older models, but we’re finally getting there.
Samsung isn’t the only one to have been struggling with Android 17, though. Last week we reported on Google’s continuing struggles with its somewhat buggy OS.
It turns out that the version of Android 17 that’s currently running on the latest Pixel 11 Pro technically isn’t as advanced as the one that’s now running on the ageing Pixel 6, which is a bit embarrassing.
