Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S27 series really is going to cost this much

Confirmation has arrived that the Samsung Galaxy S27 series is going to be significantly more expensive than its predecessors.

At the beginning of October we heard a rumour that the Samsung Galaxy S27 smartphone range was set for another price bump.

According to a South Korean blog post, Samsung’s next flagship revamp is lining up to be hiked by £100 or more.

Now a second, more reputable South Korean source has weighed in on the matter – and the news isn’t good.

Samsung reportedly wants to increase the profitability of its devices despite these pressures

According to Chosun, Samsung is considering increasing the price of its forthcoming smartphone line-up by between 100,000 and 130,000 won (between £56 and £73) compared to its original plan.

Predictably, increased memory component costs driven by the AI boom are being blamed.

Samsung’s price hike plans

Samsung reportedly wants to increase the profitability of its devices despite these pressures, and will reportedly seek to achieve this through a combination of price increases and the increased use of its own chips.

Around the time of those earlier Galaxy S27 price rumours Samsung took the step of sneaking out a price rise for its entire Galaxy S26 range.

All three of the current models – that’s the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra (pictured above) – now start at £80/$100 more than they did at launch back in March.

It means the Galaxy S27 Ultra could come in at a price only just under £1,500/$1,500 for the 256GB model and almost £2,000 or over $2,000 if you want 1TB.

As Anyron noted at the time, this is precisely the point in the year when we usually expect to see big discounts on phones launched at the beginning of the year, offering a big sales push as the next generation of devices starts to appear.

These are topsy-turvy times, my friends. And not in a fun way. Need a cheaper phone? Check our list of the best mid-range phones.
