A Look at honor chose a strange release date for its Robot Phone
Honor’s Robot Phone is one of the most unusual handsets around at the moment and after causing a stir at the World Cup final, it seems the Chinese firm has chosen a curious release date for the device.
A bit like the Samsung Galaxy Ring, it’s a device that keeps showing up at tech events and elsewhere on its way to an official launch. Honor has now confirmed that the Robot Phone will finally arrive on 12 August, which it has previously described as a “new species of smartphone.”
Only, that’s a curious date to pick because it’s the same day Google will unveil the Pixel 11 series of phones as well as the Pixel Watch 5.
It’s unlikely to be a coincidence and is more likely Honor taking an aggressive strategy as it’s been well-known to do – particularly with on the nose and sometimes controversial posts on social media.
The post on Weibo for the Robot Phone doesn’t confirm much else so we’ll have to wait for the final specs and price, plus which markets will even see the phone on sale. Some details might be announced tomorrow at the Imaging Technology Launch Event in partnership with Arri.
After seeing it in the flesh at MWC 2026, we know the Robot Phone features a 200Mp on a three-axis gimbal which has a range of party tricks including being able to dance and follow a subject around a room.
Rumoured specs include a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and a 6000mAh battery.
