Bought an iPhone for Apple’s smarter Siri? You may be able to claim a payout

Remember when Apple announced its AI plans in 2024? A smarter Siri was part of the pitch – the iPhone’s voice assistant would be able to understand what was on your screen and do more across your apps. If a friend texted you their new address, for example, you could ask Siri to add it to their contact details. Neat! Now, though, those promises are at the centre of a $250 million class action lawsuit alleging that Apple failed to deliver certain Siri AI features on time. Eligible iPhone owners can now apply – Apple has, naturally, denied wrongdoing, and has agreed to settle the case.

Before you dig out your receipt, though, this is a US settlement. You must live in the US and have bought an eligible phone there within the specified dates. Sorry.

Now that’s out of the way, let’s get to business. The official settlement website is accepting claims until 21 December 2026. The proposed payment is $25 per qualifying device, though it could be lower or rise to a maximum of $95. It depends on how many valid claims are made, along with fees and other deductions from the fund.

The eligible phones are:

  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16e
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max

The standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus aren’t included.

You must have bought the phone originally, in the US, between 10 June 2024 and 29 March 2025. Phones bought for personal or business use can qualify, but those bought for resale cannot.

The form also asks you to confirm that you bought the phone expecting certain Siri Apple Intelligence features that you didn’t receive. Simply owning one of these models doesn’t qualify you.

Have your serial number ready

Head to the settlement website and select File A Claim. You’ll need your contact details and information to verify the eligible device, including its serial number. On the iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About. You can also find the number on its original packaging, receipt, or invoice.

If you bought more than one qualifying phone, the site says to submit a separate claim form for each. Complete the process by 21 December – receiving a notification about the settlement doesn’t automatically put you in line for a payment.

The money won’t arrive straight away

A final approval hearing is currently scheduled for 24 February 2027. Payments depend on approval, and any appeals could mean a further wait. You don’t have to wait for that hearing to apply, mind. If you qualify, get your claim in by 21 December, then keep an eye on the settlement website for payment updates.
