If these iPhone 20 rumours are true, hold off on the iPhone 18 You Should Know
The first iPhone 18 models have only just made their way onto the market and yet we’re already thinking about the next big thing.
The next big thing in this case is Apple’s twentieth-anniversary phone, which is expected to launch in place of the standard iPhone 19 upgrade to the Pro and Pro Max models next year.
According to a Weibo post from leaker Digital Chat Station, prototype testing of iPhone 20 Pro and Pro Max models is already underway.

There’s good reason to believe the leaker, as they have an excellent track record when it comes to Chinese smartphone information and, more recently, iPhone rumours. This is also the first leak that’s specific when it comes to screen sizes.
According to Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 20 Pro is said to feature a display of around 6.41 inches, with a resolution of about 2,686 x 1,236 pixels. The Pro Max will have a 6.96-inch display with a 2,912 x 1,340 pixel resolution.
It’s a fairly substantial display size increase over the iPhone 18 Pro’s 6.3-inch screen and, less so, the Pro Max’s 6.9-inches.

Grading on a curve
However, some of the increase could well be down to the form of the display. It’s long been thought that the anniversary iPhone will feature some type of curved screen, which the tipster seemingly confirms. Both models will feature a quad-curved display, which wraps around the edges of the phone to hide the bezel and give it a borderless look.
Curved screens have been a popular Android design choice over the years to various degrees, with the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion and Xiaomi 15 Ultra among phones to feature them. The design even appears on the 2026 Galaxy S7 Edge. If Apple’s iPhone 20 Pro models bring them back next year, you can expect Android makers to return to the design en masse.
Relatedly, Ice Universe posted this peek at what the iPhone 20 Pro Max might look like. Bear in mind that the leaker hasn’t provided any details on the pictured handset’s origin or whether it’s AI-generated in any way.
The phones are expected to feature a smaller Dynamic Island and a punch hole display for the selfie camera. Digital Chat Station claimed that this is because the under-display camera that Apple used on the iPhone Duo is considered “poorly concealed” and not “good enough for selfies” [automatically translated from comments on the Weibo post], so won’t be used for the upcoming models.
We haven’t yet had a chance to test out the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max for ourselves, but we will soon. We don’t doubt that they’ll be high-quality phones, but for most iPhone users, the question is whether or not 2026 is the year to upgrade.
In terms of their specs, the iPhone 18 models have only had a small bump on last year’s phones: there’s an upgraded A20 processor and longer battery life. The one notable feature upgrade is the variable aperture main camera.
When coupled with a £100/$100 price hike, our advice is clear. If you’re a point-and-shoot photographer, you can likely give this year’s update a miss and wait for the redesigned models that are ever more likely to arrive next year.
