Is this the Fitbit Charge 7? Leaked by Google — Explained

It’s been almost a week since Google announced the Pixel 11 phones and Pixel Watch 5, but something strange has happened. Online adverts showing the new range of hardware also include an unannounced device.

The ads display Google’s collection of Fog and Olive colourway devices, one saying “Make it a matching set”, only there’s one device pictured which doesn’t exist, as spotted by multiple Reddit users.

Inevitably, with a situation like this, it leaves us with far more questions than answers.

Is the device even real? Did Google use AI to make the images? Is it an easter egg of sorts to see if we notice? How did they get past quality control?

Though we’ve reached out to Google for clarification, we don’t expect to get anything beyond a standard ‘no comment’ type of response.

We can, however, speculate and pose that this could be a new Fitbit device. That’s what we hope it is anyway and it also makes the most sense.

After all, the Fitbit Air launched earlier this year as the first new Fitbit-branded device in years and, from what we can tell, has been a huge success. Other devices in the range like the Sense 2 and Charge 6 are still on sale, but they are long overdue replacements.

The device pictured certainly looks like Google has updated to the Charge 6 (below) so that it looks like a fitness tracker version of the Pixel Watch 5. It has a tall, oval shape design and very much looks like the Pixel Watch has been squashed from the sides.

We can see things like the time, heart rate, step count and weather on the display, though it’s unclear if there’s a button on the wearable. It appears to have a similar strap to Pixel Watches and comes in at least Fog and Olive colourways for the straps.

If it’s the Fitbit Charge 7, then Google may have mistakenly included it in the Pixel 11/Watch 5 marketing material, or it was simply not supposed to go out until the device has been announced.

Another option, as it appears it may be running an adapted Wear OS, is a budget-friendly Pixel Watch A-series. We totally think it’s time for Google to do this, but it seems unlikely with the existence and brand power of the Fitbit range.

While it’s hard to tell if this is an AI image mistake which somehow got signed off or an accident showing a new Fitbit/Pixel device, I’d bet on the latter. A Fitbit Charge 7 as a follow-up to the Fitbit Air would make sense for Google’s strategy, even though I’d rather we got a Fitbit smart ring instead.
