Samsung Gallery finally saying goodbye to Microsoft OneDrive You Should Know

Samsung is finally rolling out the ability to sync up its Gallery app with Google Photos.

Last week Samsung confirmed that it would be replacing Microsoft OneDrive integration on its smartphone Gallery photo management app with Google Photos compatibility.

That update has now started rolling out via updates to the Gallery Sync, Samsung Cloud, and Samsung Gallery apps.

Several days ago prolific Samsung leaker Ice Universe posted confirmation of the fact, together with screenshot proof.

It means that you will now be able to connect your Samsung Gallery up to your Google account, allowing for seamless cloud back-ups of your photos and videos. You’ll also be able to access photos taken on your Samsung smartphone from the Google Photos app.

How to use the Samsung-Google sync up

Google, for its part, has posted a support page on the new integration. All you’ll need is a Samsung device running Android 13 or later (shouldn’t be too difficult).

Just head into the Samsung Gallery app and tap the Menu button at the bottom right, followed by Settings > Sync Photos and videos, then follow the instructions to choose a Google Account.

It’s worth noting that Samsung-synced photos won’t appear in Memories and highlights, live albums, or search. It also doesn’t work with Google Workspace accounts.

This Google sync up feature has been available on third party photo management apps from the likes of Xiaomi and Oppo for some time now, so Samsung is a little late to join the party.

Microsoft OneDrive compatibility in the Samsung Gallery app is due to end on 30 September.
