The reinvented Smart #2 is still perfectly formed for tackling city streets
Forget hulking all-electric giants like the Jaguar Type 01. Small is beautiful and none more so than this, the new smart #2. Unveiled at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the ‘ultra-compact urban two-seater’ is going to be perfect for packed city streets.
The all-electric compact city car is a reimagined version of the classic two-seater that did reasonably good business up until the Smart Fortwo EQ, which was discontinued a couple of years ago. Unlike the similarly pint-sized Citroen Ami, it’s got enough pep to be genuinely practical.
Underneath that svelte exterior, the smart #2 features a 35.8kWh battery, which sends juice to a rear-mounted 60kW electric motor boasting a respectable 130Nm of torque that drives the rear wheels.
At just over 1100kg, the smart #2 is expected to be pretty quick away from the lights. Meanwhile, five-link rear suspension should mean it handles nicely as well. There’s an impressive turning circle of just 6.95 metres too.

For a city car, the range is very decent with up 186 miles on tap compared to the miserly 128-mile range of the otherwise fab and similarly dinky Honda Super-N.
Better still, the smart #2 supports 65kW fast charging, so an average 10% to 80% charge would take around 20 minutes. There’s AC charging up to 11kW, which will make it ideal for anyone with a home charger, while Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) adds another level of appeal to the cute compact.
Considering its diminutive stature, the smart #2 benefits from having its wheels tucked right at the corners of the car, with wider rubber at the rear.
Inside, the space levels are pretty good, with styling features that are typically, er, smart. A split tailgate means the smart #2 should be reasonably practical too, while the new Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) platform the car sits on will feature the latest safety features.
At just 2,746mm long, this will be the smallest smart to date, with the smart #1 being the next best thing to compact from the brand. Aside from that, smart has focused on going for bigger SUV models and has released no less than three in quick succession, including the smart #3 and ridiculously rapid smart #5 Brabus. We can’t wait to get behind the wheel.
