Vodafone TV is now available to rival Sky Stream from this low, low price

After being announced at the start of September, Vodafone TV is now available in the UK and it’s available for the very low price of £10 – although that won’t get you much aside from the Freely-compatible box.

The better value deal costs £17 a month and gets you the ad-supported versions of Netflix and HBO Max on top. In contrast, Sky’s Essential TV for Sky Stream will cost you £15 a month but while you do get Netflix, you don’t get HBO Max (although you do get access to Sky Atlantic with its historical collection of HBO content). Vodafone lets you add subscriptions such as Disney+, Dazn, YouTube Premium and Spotify to your bill.

The Vodafone TV box itself is an appealing if unremarkable-looking piece of hardware with quick performance and an easy-to-navigate interface. It’s based around Android TV and coming bundled with over 150 live TV channels via Freely and having access to over 300 games, too. Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision is also on board for 4K HDR.

The box is completely streaming focused like Sky Stream – there is no ability to record, nor do you need a TV aerial. An app enables you to watch on the go, as well (though streaming on mobile devices for, say, BBC shows will punt you to iPlayer, just as it does for catch up on the box itself).

It’s an ideal option if you just want to watch everyday TV channels, YouTube and catch up apps. As it’s compatible with the Google Play Store, you can also add on other subscription apps – so you could even get sport or movies via Sky’s Now TV for example or add other streamers like Apple TV.

As with Sky Stream, the theme is to consolidate your viewing, so you can easily search, while you get personalised recommedations, too.

Vodafone TV is available now to Vodafone customers with a mobile or broadband plan or directly from Vodafone. Vodafone Together family customers can also add it to their plan. If you buy the box upfront, you can subscribe to Netflix and HBO Max on a rolling 30 day contract.

There are some launch offers – until 28 October, new Vodafone Pro Broadband customers get Vodafone TV Essential included, while if you switch across to Vodafone TV and Broadband as a bundle, Vodafone will credit your account with up to £300 to cover leaving fees from other providers.
