“If you haven’t ever heard an F355 with a Tubi exhaust in a nice decently long tunnel run, you should. The 355’s have a Flat plane crankshaft, and with a Tubi Exhaust has a Formula 1 sound… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jchd1Sj6PsM If you are in a hurry, you can start at 30 seconds. If the link does not work you can go to Youtube and search for “Ferrari F355 tunnel run” (by Fast Terrific) Not many cars can give you goosebumps when you hear them, this one does.”

“Fun reading the comments here. I’ve owned many 99s over the years. My first car was a Topaz Yellow ‘76 GL 4 door with 90k miles that I bought in 1980 from my local Saab dealership, Reinertsen Motors. It was $3000, but I traded in my 1 year old Motobecane moped, so net cash was $2400 (plus tax). I later traded that 99 at Reinertsen Motors for a ‘74 Carolina Blue 99 LE like this one because I preferred the utility of the hatchback and it looked more up to date at the time as the 900 was…”

“This is what the first-gen Celica liftback was meant to be. We got what was spec’ed for US market, same chassis but with the big 5mph bumpers and a much lower-performance engine. The 20R is great for a truck, but 100 hp at 4800 rpm isn’t as much fun as an 18R-G140 hp at 6500 rpm in a sub-2500 lb car.

Were the dash and console panels painted gray? I believe all the RA29s had woodgrain vinyl stickers, which harked back to the 2000GT’s beautiful woodwork, but perhaps that was also…”

A quintessential West Coast “car guy,” he organized the California Mille (1000 mile historic race car tour on Northern California back roads) in 1991 after discovering and driving Italy’s most-famous open road race (Mille Miglia) in 1982.

“Back in the year 2001, I had this long-held notion I’d own a BMW 2002 in the YEAR 2002. So, obviously I began my search too early and found one far too quickly. So, In the dead of Winter, I rented a car and drove from Michigan to Washington DC and bought an Inka 1973 2002tii with sunroof. I drove it home, missing the blizzard in Pennsyvanis by a half day.
A few years later, in 2005, when I moved to the West Coast I drove it to from Michigan, covering 5000 miles within a month — crossing…”

“Years ago, I had coffee in San Francisco with a venture capitalist from Sequoia. Over conversation, it came out that we were both really into Porsches. I was telling him about my Blue Turquoise 993 that I was (and still am) really proud of. He said that he also had a 993. He asked if I wanted to take a look at it out in the parking lot. Of course, I took him up on the opportunity, but what I saw was really unexpected. It was a 993 Turbo S in this color, covered in mud. He had over 100,000 miles…”

“I commented earlier about operating these at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport CA. They are very easy to drive and we accumulated thousands of hours on ours. They are extremely well engineered and very reliable. They were maintained by our own mechanics and did not require them to attend additional technical training. The rubber tracks last a surprisingly long time as long as they are not run on concrete or asphalt too often. We did not baby these things, they…”

There was always a destination , but the journey was the reason , just a love of being on the open road and feeling young and unencumbered . I always used to have my “Road Trip” tape which i had previously recorded and was quite long and had a wide variety of music to listen to on the road but the same song , first up on the tape , “Vehicle” by The Ides of March always…”

“This is Gene Winfield and VooDoo Larry quality imo. I like how there is just enough chrome trim left on the beltline, rear valance, and bumpers. With it being nosed, decked, shaved door handles, and the sectioned trunk lid. That and the frenching of the headlights and taillights. Leaves just the right amount of chrome.
The interior is super clean, the center console around the shifter, and the shifter itself reminds me of a mid 70s Camaro or Firebird.
