A Look at baT Auction Success Story: Return of the CTS-V.R

BaT member Ctsvr brought his CTS-V race car, which he won from Dlawrench back in November 2024, back into to the public spotlight at Road Atlanta. He recently wrote in to tell us about his Cadillac and included some great photos and a video of the car in action!

As a Cadillac CTS-V enthusiast (specifically the first-generation V1), I naturally had my notifications turned on specifically for that model on Bring a Trailer. When I saw this Cadillac CTS-V.R up for sale, I knew I had to make it happen. I had previously attempted to purchase one of the other chassis out of a private collection, but was never able to come to an agreement on the deal.

A bit of background: GM Racing tasked Pratt Miller to build a Cadillac race car to compete in sports car racing, building on the successes of the C5.R. PME produced four of these chassis to campaign under the newly formed “Cadillac Racing” umbrella for the 2004 to 2007 Speed World Challenge GT Championship series, which culminated in a Driver’s Championship for Andy Pilgrim in 2005 and a Manufacturer’s Championship for Cadillac in both 2005 and 2007.

This particular car, Chassis CTSV001, was the development car built in the spring of 2003, which Pratt Miller hauled around to various tracks across North America discreetly testing for the upcoming season with factory Cadillac driver Max Angelelli at the wheel.

When I purchased the car in November 2024, I had the pleasure of dealing with two former Pratt Miller employees. One took care of the auction and communication with prospective buyers, and the other (the owner of the car itself) was a former VP of Engineering at PME as well as the Chief Engineer on the CTS-V.R project. Both of these folks have been a phenomenal help with the car, and continue to be to this day.

The car had largely sat since 2008, whether it was inside Pratt Miller’s front lobby as a showpiece, or in the showroom of their local vehicle graphics installer location. I knew well going into the auction that it would need a lot of love.

I spent all of eight months going through almost everything on the car: rebuilding the suspension with new spherical bearings and dampers, replacing the entire fuel system and any hardware removed, updating the suspension design to the latest revision, changing fluids, updating all safety equipment, and so on and so forth. There were times in the “restoration” that the end seemed way out of sight, but I had great support from Pratt Miller in any way they could, even down to providing the engineering drawings so I could have new custom wheels made.

On June 13 the fuel system was finally installed, and the car started for the first time since December 2024.

And on June 14, the car made its first few passes on the track for the first time in approximately 16 years. It was everything I could have dreamed of as someone who had chased these cars for years. The Katech-built V8 revved up to 7,400 rpm, the clutchless Hewland dogbox shifted flawlessly, and the awesome chassis, which was capable of rolling speed, effortlessly ran through the elevation changes of Road Atlanta. It ran perfectly, turning 50-plus laps across the entire weekend, and I was able to give rides to six different people.

Thanks to Pratt Miller, countless friends and family, and Bring a Trailer for allowing me to finally have and drive my dream car. I look forward to enjoying it and sharing it with others for years to come!

BaT member williamglenn95 wrapped up a fly-and-drive adventure with the 1967 Morgan 4/4 GT that he won from 97mar in an August 2025 BaT auction. He affectionately named it Marj, and wrote in to tell us how the name came to be:
As a kid, I had a hardwired fascination for all types of beautiful and unique vehicles. This was inspired by my older cousins, who owned everything from motorcycles to a 1960s VW sand rail and a 1965 Sting Ray. My brother and I would play a game every time we rode in the third row of our family’s Chevy Astro van, trying to accurately state the make, model, and year of every car we passed, even at night (I can still read headlight and taillight signatures with surprising accuracy). We also collected hundreds of Hot Wheels cars and spent countless hours talking about our future rides. I inherited both of my current vehicles and started a separate savings account for my dream car.

After winning this 2010 Saab 9-3 Aero a few states away on BaT, I decided a fly-and-drive trip would be the best way to get it home. And since I became a private pilot about a year ago, I knew this would be a great opportunity to demonstrate the practicality of general aviation.

    He writes:
For many years, owning a Porsche had been a dream of mine. After years of saving and imagining the moment, that dream started to turn into a reality (and the adventure of a lifetime) when this 1999 Porsche 986 Boxster with just 40,608 miles appeared on Bring a Trailer at no reserve. It was finally time to take the plunge. After a spirited bidding war, the car was mine. Nothing could wipe the smile off my face that day.

  • A Look at baT Success Story: The Designer’s Designer Car

We last heard from BaT member ABikePeddler in December 2021 for his 10 Questions interview, itself following a three-for-one Success Story published in July of that year. He’s back with a new story about his fourth BaT Auction win: a 2001 Audi TT roadster that he purchased from MichaelDiTullo in March 2025:
Bring a Trailer’s community is a swirling vortex of people from all demographics, from heads of industry to entertainment personalities to us average Joes—it covers the full gamut. And within the huge expanse, there are also stars. The elite. These BaT celestial bodies, sitting in the shadows and hidden behind a username. They are the driving force behind many of the vehicles we dream about—the ones we get to actually experience, if we are lucky. These people are the designers and engineers who make said objects burst to life. Getting to meet a vehicle designer is akin to a Bible salesman getting to meet Moses in the eyes of the automotive enthusiast, so you can rightfully forgive me for flipping the script here a bit as I try to describe one of my most memorable automotive purchases.

BaT member pevans has built himself a home garage of sorts around his BaT wins, which include a 2002 Panoz Esperante purchased from Techno, this 1991 Porsche 944 S2 sold by Pipoto, this 1986 944 Turbo auctioned by jmtwilson, Indy Car carbon-fiber bodywork offered by IvantS8, a quarter midget racer project listed by Markwins123, and his partner’s 1992 Porsche 968 cab bought from Local Partner motorcarmarketusa.
    pevans writes:
I wanted to send you a different kind of Success Story. I’ve been building onto my existing garage, and while we were hanging up some wall art, my partner in crime—Brenda—made a remark: this was a garage that Bring a Trailer helped build. I stopped what I was doing and looked around. “Well, I guess it is,” I replied.

  • BaT Auction Success Story: bamiot’s Sunburst Gold M3 Boomerang — Explained

This Success Story comes to us from bamiot, who won this Sunburst Gold F80 M3 from casciomotors in a December 2025 BaT auction:
I had the fortune of winning this 2016 Sunburst Gold Metallic BMW M3, one of just two F80 M3s originally collected via Euro Tourist Delivery.  My younger brother originally built it for a client, who turned and sold it—it’s the second of his BMW builds that I’ve won. In this case, my brother and his shop Parts Score in Scottsdale, Arizona, had previously installed Pure Turbos Stage 2 turbochargers and KW4 coilovers, among other tweaks. The car had been further modified after a subsequent purchase in 2016 by other shops in California, I believe.
