BYD (HKEX: 1211) sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao said Thursday that the Formula S and Formula S GT have begun accepting pre-orders in China, with prices ranging from 230,000 yuan ($33,920) to 280,000 yuan.
The range is below previous industry expectations of 250,000 yuan to 300,000 yuan. The 2 models will make their official debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, which opens on August 21.
The Formula S series is Fang Cheng Bao’s first sedan product line, following the Bao series focused on rugged off-road vehicles and the Tai series aimed at urban driving. The brand describes it as an “all-scenario, multi-form personalized sedan” lineup.
Fang Cheng Bao previously unveiled 3 models under the new series: the Formula S sedan, the Formula S GT shooting brake, and the Formula SL coupe. The current reservation program covers only the first 2.
The Formula S measures 5,060 mm in length, 1,967 mm in width and 1,483 mm in height, while the Formula S GT is 5,025 mm long, or 5,095 mm with an optional tow hitch. Both have a wheelbase of 2,960 mm and fall into the mid-to-large sedan segment.
Both models are offered in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. The rear-wheel-drive versions have peak motor outputs of either 245 kW or 300 kW, while the all-wheel-drive versions use a 190-kW front motor and a 300-kW rear motor.
Battery pack capacities are 76.744 kWh and 92.093 kWh, providing CLTC ranges from 730 kilometers to 900 kilometers. The entire lineup is expected to feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology.
Fang Cheng Bao also unveiled 4 exterior colors — silver, green, yellow and red — and said more color options will be added later.
The full specifications of the 2 models will be revealed after the Chengdu Auto Show opens. The Tai 9, the brand’s largest model and a 6-seat plug-in hybrid SUV, will also make its global debut at the same show.
The Formula S series arrives as Fang Cheng Bao’s sales are growing rapidly. The brand delivered 41,213 vehicles in July, up 190.6% year-on-year, bringing deliveries in the first 7 months of the year to 200,687 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Fang Cheng Bao said on August 5 that its cumulative sales had surpassed 500,000 units in less than 3 years, with an average transaction price of more than 223,000 yuan.
