Nio August deliveries breakdown: ES9 delivers 6,479 units, joins ES8 in topping 82% of main brand volume: A Practical Look

Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) delivered 6,479 ES9 vehicles in August, up 2.60% month-on-month, as the model and ES8 continued to dominate its main brand's deliveries.

The executive flagship SUV (sport utility vehicle) accounted for 30.60% of the Nio main brand's monthly deliveries and 18.08% of the group's total, according to China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data compiled by CnEVPost.

ES9 deliveries recovered slightly after falling 26.53% month-on-month in July, but remained below June's 8,595 units. Cumulative deliveries reached 24,497 units since deliveries began in May.

Launched on May 27 with a starting price of 498,000 yuan ($73,480), the ES9 has become a key model in Nio's push into the high-end market.

ES8 deliveries reached 11,001 units in August, up 6.93% month-on-month and exceeding 10,000 for the second consecutive month. It remained Nio Inc's highest-volume model.

Nio previously said on September 1 that it delivered 10,999 third-generation ES8 vehicles in August. The latest CPCA figure is 2 units higher, and CnEVPost has revised its charts accordingly.

Based on the updated data, ES8 deliveries totaled 99,948 units in the first 8 months, just 52 short of 100,000. The model accounted for 62.21% of the Nio main brand's deliveries over the period.

The 5-seat ES8 was launched on July 9, with deliveries starting the following day, expanding the model's reach from 3-row SUVs into the large 5-seat segment.

The ES9 and ES8 delivered a combined 17,480 units in August, accounting for 82.55% of the Nio main brand's total and 48.78% of Nio Inc's deliveries.

Delivery volumes for the main brand's other key models remained relatively small. Some recovered from July but continued to post steep year-on-year declines.

ET5 Touring deliveries came in at 1,633 units in August, up 4.61% month-on-month but down 62.74% year-on-year. Deliveries in the first 8 months totaled 15,328 units, down 49.40%.

The ES6 SUV delivered 1,006 units, up 14.97% month-on-month but down 65.55% year-on-year. ET5 deliveries rose 22.44% from July to 622 units, while falling 53.06% from a year earlier.

EC6 coupe SUV deliveries totaled 322 units, down 9.55% month-on-month and 71.93% year-on-year. The flagship ET9 sedan delivered 99 units, slightly above July's 98, while ET7 sedan deliveries stood at 9 units.

Sub-brand Onvo delivered 8,810 vehicles in August, down 46.39% year-on-year and 13.24% month-on-month, marking its third consecutive monthly decline.

L60 deliveries fell 30.05% month-on-month to 3,462 units. L80 deliveries declined 2.88% to 3,139 units, falling for the third consecutive month since deliveries began in May.

L90 deliveries rose 11.90% month-on-month to 2,209 units, but were down 79.11% from 10,575 a year earlier. The model began deliveries in August last year, creating a high base for the annual comparison.

Small-car brand Firefly delivered 5,852 vehicles in August, up 34.65% year-on-year and 1.40% month-on-month. Firefly currently has 1 model on sale.

Nio Inc delivered 35,836 vehicles in August, up 14.47% year-on-year but down 0.27% month-on-month. Main brand deliveries rose 101.18% year-on-year to 21,174 units, offsetting Onvo's decline.

Nio Inc's deliveries in the first 8 months totaled 262,893 vehicles, up 57.92% year-on-year. The Nio main brand contributed 160,670 units, Onvo 61,428 and Firefly 40,795.

Nio Inc delivered 35,836 vehicles in August, topping 35,000 for the fourth consecutive month despite a slight sequential decline.
