10/22 Update: We have a winner!
Over 140 of you made your voices heard in the latest Michelin and BFGoodrich tire giveaway, and it was a close one! It immediately became a competition between the triple-carb XJ6 and the green Squire wagon. And despite the Jag’s best efforts, the Ford kept its lead and took the win. Congratulations to its new owner, @SkyEyes.
BaT member Txcarguy recently wrote in with a Success Story about the 1999 Porsche Boxster that he won from BaT Local Partner collectiveauto in a July 2025 BaT auction.
He writes:
For many years, owning a Porsche had been a dream of mine. After years of saving and imagining the moment, that dream started to turn into a reality (and the adventure of a lifetime) when this 1999 Porsche 986 Boxster with just 40,608 miles appeared on Bring a Trailer at no reserve. It was finally time to take the plunge. After a spirited bidding war, the car was mine. Nothing could wipe the smile off my face that day.

“My late grandfather had a 92 Accord EX sedan that he took to 800,000 before he passed. Unfortunately it was in northern Illinois so by the time he died the car was only about 75% there from the beltline down due to rust. It was a stick and still had the original engine and transmission (I think it was only on t he second clutch) and still drove like a dream. If it wasn’t for the rust I would have kept it and drove it to a million plus. This one is tempting. These are really great cars…”

The next Saturday in sludgoville was absolutely splendid. The crisp scent of October was in the morning air and most of the leaves had already fallen, but Indian Summer was in full swing, skies clear and blue and a harvest-orange sun lazily edging daytime temps into the seventies. It was just after noon and I was high up in Big Olie—the big oak in my Grandma’s back yard. The Beehive hated me climbing trees but I loved it and Olie was such a terrific tree to climb, bent this way and that with lumps and bumps growing here and there that fell perfectly under my twelve year-old feet and hands. I’d scampered up his trunk like a jungle cat and took a right turn onto the first big branch. It was as fat around as a pony and I’d straddled and skittered out to its very end to my favorite crook and was finally settling in when I heard it—twin rattly rumbles of diesel-fired horsepower and torque getting closer and closer and louder and louder. I leaned forward from my perch to get a better look at what was going on just in time to see two shiny-black extra-large tow-trucks chug into Old Man Granger’s driveway and hiss to a stop. Time to pick up the Cadillacs.
