A few of the comments that stood out to us yesterday:

“A Christmas wish, a dream of speed and grace,
No simple toy beneath the tinsel’s shine,
But a Chiron Bugatti to leave its trace,
A masterpiece of power, wholly divine.
The price tag high, a fortune vast to pay,
For roaring engines and the scent of leather new,
    Upon this joyful, gift-receiving day,
A gleaming marvel, in a stunning hue.
Beneath the tree, no socks nor simple game,
But keys in hand to unlock might untold,
To feel the rush, the engine’s rising flame,
    A Christmas…”

For background, I’m an A&P with Inspection Authorization (IA), with nearly two decades of experience in airline maintenance, and I currently fly the Boeing 767. I’m also a general aviation aircraft owner and have owned and operated a GA maintenance shop.
I’m familiar with Lil’ Red and her maintenance history, and I’ve reviewed and observed the work that’s been performed on…”

“Our family thanks all of you for checking out our car and for the fun and informative dialogue this week. It will be a bittersweet moment to say goodbye to this piece of history. Our hope is for this ol’ girl to have her story told and her former glory restored. We congratulate the future auction winner of the 56’ Imperial Convertible project. We can’t wait to see her roll down the street, top down, and HEMI purring once again! Best of luck to all the bidders.”

“Thks auction has brought back some memories for me. Back in the mid/late fifties my parents had a 1952 Buick Roadmaster woody wagon, maroon with maroon leather interior. It was may fathers favorite car out of many Buicks he had owned. On many warm Sunday afternoons my parents would load me and my brother in the Buick along with a pick nick basket, and sometimes a cocker spaniel, and we’d go for drive. Often the drive took us to a place here in the hills of north central Pennsylvania know as…”

“I was a teenager HS student working at the corner service station. We had a local Dr that had one of these, his was the beautiful dark blue with matching padded top. He would pull in for gas, 27 gallon tank. After putting the car in “Park” he would tilt the wheel which would almost go horizontal on these and throw a small towel that covered the wheel from rim edge to edge. Gas up. Then………the fun would begin! Around to the car wash. Customers would be directed into the wash at the correct…”

“Lets talk about tires. It was noted that I spend tons of money restoring these Elans and then use cheap tires. There is a very limited selection of 13″ tires available. You can’t just go to Tire Rack and get Michelin Pilot Sports. They just don’t make them in 13”.
The original tire on an early Elan was a bias ply 145 series. Very narrow. Although you can get some 145 or 165X80 series tires, I prefer the slightly wider but not any taller 165X65X13 tires. They fit the wheel well and still have…”

“Man oh man, nobody writes any more like these guys did. Never knew it was anything other than as-expected and normal when I’d wait for my Car and Driver, Road & Track and Auto Week magazines to arrive in the mail to immediately read from front to back beginning as a 6 or 7 year old in the 70’s.
No wonder I became a car nut. It can be attributed to the brilliant authors of the articles written by these guys.
    Great stuff.”

“Over the past fifty years, we’ve owned too many Saabs to count and a few Porsches along the way. An older perfectly maintained low miles Porsche comes through BaT every week. However, those who own Saabs enjoy the wheels off them. A Porsche is often a third or fourth car in a stable. A Saab is the daily driver and gets the miles. That as many have survived is testament to those who love Saabs really love them and will put in more time and money out of love, knowing it’s not a rational…”

“Happy 9/28! I’ve owned many cars since I started driving in 2009, and the 928 remains my favorite car of all time. I’ll occasionally go lengthy periods without driving one (months at a time), and begin to question whether something else is worthy of that mantle in my own mind. Then I’ll hop into one and go for a drive, immediately erasing any doubt that it remains top dog.”

Will be sitting next to its cousin, my ’73 CSL. Mario (VSR), get some room ready…!!! Thank you, Brian, for working on this deal with me. It will be in good hands for a while! Best to all. David”

My dad was a lifelong car guy and friends of the builders/owners Ted Trischler and Frank Dennler and was there the first time they fired up the Kritter! What is ironic that people mention it reminds them of the Batmobile from the rear is that the car was actually built in a cave (Batcave) of the hillside section of Spring Garden that is located…”

“For general information only: The “green things” on most Citroëns of this era all relate to the hydraulic system. Green indicates LHM (mineral oil) fluid vs older red (brake fluid) systems. The SM has 6 green things visible under the hood. From left to right you have; Passanger’s front suspension sphere (acts like a shock absorber and allows different ride heights), In the center – Hydraulic main pump, Main pressure sphere (which controls five levels of ride height, brakes, steering, clutch…”

“@RTCH having worked at David Hobbs Honda in 2000, when they debuted in the US. Apparently, at least for the initial wave or first year, dealerships had the option having all their S2000s fully equipped with aero accessories or non of them equipped. Not sure how long that lasted, but Hobbs had all the initial S2000s equipped. When the first ones arrived at the dealership everything came to a halt, all employees came outside to gawk while David and Greg inspected and tested them for about 30…”

Dad made me take the 1st in a 2wd, straight six, three on the tree suburban with no power steering. 2nd in a 2wd , 302 v8 IH Scout with the stiff lurchy clutch that gave you the Jimmy leg. Neither one worked well for a skinny 16 year old. 3rd didn’t leave the DMV because I “didn’t adjust the mirrors” , after…”

I didn’t inherit any money when I turned 21 like I told the dealer I might and had to release it to sell to someone else. It did show up on the showroom floor and that was the last time I saw it. I later converted the front of my MGA to look like a cobra… and then changed it back when I made it my first race car… This was in 1965.”
